At what point do you think the USA should get involved in other countries?

So clearly the United States has itself in a lot of problems with other countries around the world. When do you think that it is appropriate that one country gets involved in the affairs of another, and why? Does the USA have a moral obligation as a super power or not?

The United States should get involved when the security of its people is threatened. Unfortunately, since World War II, this definition has been expanded to "promote US interests." And means getting involved in a lot of foreign affairs, something clearly the US founding fathers wanted to stay clear of. Now, I've just advocated a fairly isolationist viewpoint for US involvement. That said, the US should promote peace and liberty throughout the world.
