Concert tickets - Just how much would you pay to get tickets for a gig???

Tantrum - Tears and Tantrums over ticket prices
March 24, 2007 4:58am CST
Having just seen a television article on the price of concert tickets, and the incredible mark up made on tickets by the touts and Internet sellers, it has prompted me to ask the question here. Just how much over the ticket price are you prepared to go in order to get concert tickets?

Hi, I dunno whether it was a lie or not but I'm sure I heard that someone had sold their 'Take That' tickets for £100,000 on Ebay! There is no way I would pay that much to see anyone live! I would pay a couple of hundred tops (So jealous of you getting to see Iron Maiden, I wanted to go but had all sold out and didn't see any tickets on ebay for the dates I wanted to go) I guess if you're a real fan and have been waiting to see your favourite band for ages, then I guess paying what you can afford but I don't think paying over £500 is excessive for one ticket!

The *Take That* tickets did go for stupid money on eBay although I believe that is being investigated. Iron Maiden were AMAZING *sorry*. I don't mind paying face value for tickets, or even a little more over the odds for a gig I really want to see, but it's the real die hard fans losing out to the touts every time. I hope you get to see Iron Maiden hun, they really blew us away.

I'm hoping I'll get to 'Download' this year to see them! Hope I'll get the time! Have a great weekend!

Hubby and I are going to see the Red Hot Chilli Peppers in Melbourne next month. Man, it was sooo hard to get hold of tickets, they sold like hot cakes on a cold day! We ended up with cheapo tickets sitting in the back of a field a trillion miles away! Still at least we'll get to hear them play. To answer your question - I won't go over the ticket price to get them. I don't believe in putting money in scalpers' pockets! Bad karma to them for ripping the public off I say. lol

Hey the Peppers, you will love it hun. The touts and scalpers are a real pain in the neck here, people buying up loads of tickets and selling them on eBay are in for a shock soon as I understand eBay aer going to hit them hard.

I used to care more about going to concerts before. SOmetimes we used to pay a bit more over the ticket price to get them, but often we would get them way in advance and paid just the regular price. Now I'm not sure. I think that if I know there is a concert coming that I would really like to go I would try to get the tickets at regular price, if not.. I'm not sure if I would pay more.

I prefer getting tickets well in advance if I can, some of the touts really do push their luck with prices often quadruple

Can't say this 100 percent but I am pretty certain I wouldn't pay over the odds - I think the touts should be put out of business and would if non of us paid their inflated prices! I mean sometime the tickets never arrive and others they are fake tickets - why take the chance?

Valid points hun, the number of fakes is quite worrying on the Internet, the guy from eBay was saying this morning that they could do little to stop them however. If the touts were out of business, at least fans have a chance of decent price tickets.

Let me start by saying that I rarely attend concerts (although I like them) and I am really a frugal person, BUT................ I paid an incredible amount to see Paul McCartney, $250...I would never, ever pay that to see anyone else. And it was worth every single penny. He did not disappoint! He played for about 3 hours....lots of Beatles songs and Wings songs, too. Wow, it was amazing!

Can I ask, did you get your ticket from a ticket agency or direct from the box office? I don't mind paying the face value but I get really wild at the prices being charged by the touts.

It depends if i love the artist. I am willing to sacrifice my allowance for a week to afford a ticket. smile ;D

A reasonable price is ok, but would you pay well over price?

I think that the way ticket prices are being marked up is just unreal. Their is also a risk of getting fakes when you purchase over the internet. The only way I would buy a ticket is "the old fashioned way" either calling up to the ticket place and charging the ticket over the phone, or waiting in line to buy one!

There have been a lot of scams with tickets lately too, people paying out a lot of money and getting nothing. The last gig tickets I bought were from the NEC bought over the phone.

No way, man! Unless I am freaking rich, it's hard to imagine myself splurging a few hundred bucks for a ticket. I am glad I have not liked any performer that much. :P If it is free, I will CONSIDER spending my time there, ha!

Hello Wizard, The crazy thing is people are prepared to pay £1,000 a ticket to see Take That - are they mad ????? Sheesh, I saw Iron Maiden in December and only paid the standard face value for the ticket at £30. Cheers hun, have a good day.
