Even here in Sydney Australia we have heard about the famous Idaho potatoes although we produce a good local product ourselves. What did suprise me was a story on Discovery Channel on Fox that said the soil that produces the Idaho potatoes came from the erruption of a super volcano located beneath Yellowstone National Park that blew it's stack a long long time ago. Considering how far Yellowstone is from Idaho it must have been one monumental bang and scientists say there is no reason it couldn't happen again some time in the future.

FACT- We dont even get Idaho potato's regularly in our grocery stores! They ship them out! We have to look really hard just to find our own potatos. I hate that people know Idaho just for potatos. There is so much more here.

I wasn't meaning to upset you by mentioning the potaatoes, I'm sure it is nice there. What you say doesn't really suprise me as on a trip years ago from Sydney Australia to the Great Barrier Reef in Queensland I often found myself surrounded by Banana plantations but couldn't buy one for love nor money. It's the same in the Apple Isle (Tasmania) which is famous for its apples butfresh apples are not available for sale in the local shops only the ones that have been in cold storage for months and look great but are tastless. All fresh produce is picked before it ripens and shipped direct to the big city markets and distributed from there

wow! i don't really have information to share about boise, idaho, except for the fact that i heard it's a nice place to live. we are also planning a move by the end of the month, but we're moving from anaheim, california to the dallas, texas area [actually, more the city of frisco in collin county, more specifically]. so i'm curious to find out what made you decide to move there. is it job/work-related? family? school?

2idahowego - did you ever push thru with your move? we did. we left california in late august and moved to the dallas area...everything's been good, so far...except for the fact that we came right in the midst of a heatwave! this is a great place to raise kids as people here are very family-oriented and church-going as well...pace of life is much slower than what we had in orange county and the greater los angeles area, so stress levels are really low around here!

Hot pepper - Hot pepper
Im born and raised in idaho. just to warn you, not many people like californians moving here. The housing market has sky rocketed and you cant find anything worth really living in under $260 grand or $300.

It's nice! We moved here 4 months ago from Arizona, I LOVE IT!! Boise is big, but not too big. We had to deal with Phoenix for shopping and it was a big crazy mess. Boise is not near as bad. The surrounding areas are nice too. The weather has been wonderful - of course we came from extreme heats so weeks of 60-70 degree weather has been amazing! I really like it, crime isn't too bad and it's just nice. I'd recommend it lol!
