Anyone ever wrote a song?

I just wonder if anyone here ever tried to write a song? I love to sing, but I am tired of singing old songs, I want to have my original song, but I think I am not able to write it myself. Maybe I just need to try? Anyway, tell me how many songs you composed yourself and were you brave enough to write your own CD? thank you.

I write lyrics yes..irregularly but I have a nice amount of them. I've had friends read them -- and fans of my other written works, and people like them. And though I love to sing, I'm not a part of a band, never could afford to learn how to play different instruments so I could record even if I wanted to. Lyrics is like poetry in a way..though..different of course. The words have to flow..usually some of them need to rhyme..if you look at lyrics a little closely you begin to notice different patterns and after some practice you can even begin developing your OWN patterns to create songs with. It's not terribly hard usually..just like with anything it takes a bit of work.

oops, terrible typo. couldn't if I wanted to* Anyway, I forgot to add that even if it may not seem great to you, you never know what others may think..so get some feedback if you do try to write a song..see what others say, then decide..but all in all never give up. Good luck! ^_^

Thank you for your response. I think you are right, never give up and work hard if you want to reach your goal and fulfil your dream. Also, what you may think is not good enough other might like, so you need to try. Thank you for your support and nice words. I will try to compose something and who knows maybe it will be good. I wish you good luck and hope that you will publish your songs somewhere, so that other people could read them as well.

i know the feeling. i've written a couple myself but they aren't ground breaking. but things have changed in my life and i'm just happy to sing. if you want to get serious, learn the guitar or buy a keyboard and start to play. also keep a journal with you and a tape recorder, esp next to the bed. that way when you think of a tune or lyrics you can write them down or sing them into the recorder. sometimes the style that you think will suit you doesn't suit you at all, so try all different genre's and let your audience tell you what they think suits you and go from there.

wow! thank you so much for your advise! I have never thought about the recorder. It is great idea! cause I don't know how to play any kind ot instrument, that's why I thought that even if I have a good melody in my head, I will not be able to save it anyway, so why to bother. Now you opened my eyes, cause I can use the recorder! thank you so much for your post!! it really helped me a lot!

I have composed just one song but I have not a good voice and I did not put it in a CD but I still hope that someday, I could still compose others and write them in a CD sung by somebody who has the right voice.

Yupe.. I sometimes write my own songs. First I recorded in my pocket pc if I'm not in front of my PC, and then I make the lyrics. But my songs only become private consumption :D because still not confidence enough to write my own CD... Maybe some other time. I think you can try a lil bit, if you find some good melodies, you can try to write it, or recorded, until you finish the whole song... you can surprise with the result :)

I also love to sing. Writing songs is also difficult for me though. I have so many inspirations. There are many things in my life that would make great songs. The ideas are there. Usually they come to me at the strangest times. When the lyrics come to me it always seems I can't find just the right music that fits. The opposite is also true. As has already been mentioned, having a recorder handy is a big help. I have lost many ideas when I woke up thinking of something and later forgot. I have written a couple of songs, but none I was happy with. I have made a couple of CDs that are available by donation to help Hospice of Michigan, but I would love to be able to come up with enough original songs to publish my own CD.

I wrote a few in my youth, but really dropped out of songwriting when I became an adult.
