According to a new law that took effect on 01/01/07 in Russia, every family having the second (third, etc) child born or adopted will receive 280,000 roubles (about $10,000). This money may be spent either for the child's education or as a mortgage or in some other way. I'd like to stress that in Russia it's an unprecedented example of how the State takes care of mothers and children. During the past 15 years there has been an incredible baby bust in Russia, now there is a surplus of deaths over births. So the government had to do something to improve the situation. Are there any similar projects in your country? Are mothers paid by the State for being moms?

Here in the Aus all mothers get paid when they have children. We get fortnightly payments from the government called Family Payments to help raise our kids, the payments start from 20 odd Au dollars to a few hundred dollars. A few years a go the government introduced a payment called New Born Child ASllowance, you get about $3000AU for each new child, some of the money is paid immediately and a little later on after the baby has been imunised.

It seems that this New Born Child Allowance is like the law adopted in Russia. Here in Israel all mothers are paid right after their child's birth - about $300 that is considered to be a monthly cost of living. And then the mothers who worked before the birth are paid a maternity leave which is a three months salary.

wow thats really interesting. I have never heard of any country giving money to a family to have more children. Its far more commen to hear of the middle east countrys who are only allowed to have one child. So thats really intesresting to me. While the US dosent give us a cash out of sorts, there are a bunch of things that are done to make life easier once you have children. Like tax breaks, and assitance, medical aid ect. Thats really intesresting though.

Yes, for example in China families can't afford having the second child, because they'll have to pay huge taxes. But it's explainable: if you no, the population of China is more than 1 billion people. But Russia is not a "middle east country". It spreads from eastern Europe till the Far East. So, it comprises both European and Asian cultures. And as I said, this project is really unexampled. It encourages families to have more than one child. Thank you for the comment.

well julia i do live in the same country you do. but i really think that would also be a good idea to imply it on israel. to my opinion we really need especially on those few last years to "bust" our population.

Isnt it such a contradiction, while some countries will do anything possible to make people have more children and life eaiser for them with children, some countries have no choice but to restrict their population.

im 4rm india and in india the government is trying to reduce the present rate at which the birth rate is increasing .so i think the government should give families money who only hav a child or none..or they should impose a tax on people having more than two children..if d populatiom of bombay (d city in india in which i stay)increases at this rate people will have to be flown over to russia.ha ha
