Do you buy new clothes when there is a sale... even when you don't NEED them?

My closet - My Closet full of clothes.. and this pic only shows 1/4 of it!

I have been trying hard over the last few years to control my spending when it comes to clothes. I get all kinds of coupons and emails for my favorite store, good discounts, and great sales! But I tear most of them up so I won't be tempted. I have a closet full of clothes that are mostly in really good shape, I manage to wear something different every day and it takes weeks before I am rotating. At the same time, every time I get a coupon I think about how long it has been since I bought anything new, and think... maybe I'll just buy a few things. Right now I'm holding on to a 30% off coupon for my fav store, and can't decide if I should use it! What do you guys think? How long do you go between buying new clothes? How many clothes are too many clothes? I also gotta say, clothes fit me for years which is why my closet is so full. I still have and wear shirts from high school! I don't like throwing something away that still looks good and is in good shape. Do you ever purge your closet just because something is old, even if it's still in good shape? Discuss:)

I buy clothes sometimes when they are on sales. Though, and fortunately for me and my budget and do not feel the rush to go to the store and buy new clothes whenever there is a sale.

I don't feel the need to go every time either, but sometimes... I just can't help myself :) I always think back to the many times I went to the store AFTER the sale b/c I needed a black sweater or something, and I was mad I didn't go shopping during the sale. It's worth it to at least check it out, I've learned that if I don't love it immediately than I shouldn't buy it just b/c it's cheap.

I too have a hard time controlling myself when it comes to spending for clothes.. You could think about it and then decide if there's something that's worth buying.. Or you could try to think to reward yourself for being able to discipline yourself with it.. :) Before I usually go to every sale held but now I don't go that much because I'm addicted to online shopping.. If I feel like rewarding myself then I do buy or if I see something I like that I don't spend that much than I used to before.. It would be quite normal for a girl to act this way, if I see something I know I won't be able to wear then I try to sell it.. It would took me how many thinkings before I could decide that I'm selling it.. lol

I do think it is about time I reward myself for all the control I have had! I do try to cut back on spending even when I do shop. I used to be able to spend a few hundred dollars at my fav clothing store, but now I try to keep it under 100! You gotta remember that a lot of things there cost between 30-50$ a piece, so it's hard to stay low :) I've never tried to sell clothes though. If I end up not liking them or not wearing them I just give them away... which is why I hate buying stuff and NOT wearing it! I found a nice sweater in my closet with tags on it today. I don't remember when I bought it, but the way it was folded I never saw it. Now I'm determined to wear it ASAP :)

I try to give or donate some, if ever I have clothes that are old but still can be used by others. My country is not that rich to provide for every poor and less-fortunate people we have here, so we try our very best to fill their spots and contribute to our community. Especially when there are people who became victims of typhoons and other calamities, the need for used clothings is very high. As for those store sales, gift cheques and discounts, I also tear them to pieces. I still have old clothes that are piled up on boxes and put above my closet, ready to be given to those who needs it, just in case!;)

I could never refuse a good sale price. I love to hit the clearance racks too. I have managed to walk out of stores with carts full of clothes for under a couple hundred bucks simply by hitting the sale and clearance racks.

We have the same problem! Lol I have been trying really hard to control my spending on clothes, because I have sooo many that I really do not need! Lol. But if you are not having money problems right now, and it's been a long time before you have bought anything new, then I would say take that coupon and have fun with it. After all, you deserve to do something nice for yourself!

Oh I love sale! I do buy clothes even if I don't need them especially if they are really cheap after discounts. I have tons of clothes. I do clean the up by picking the old ones but still in good shape. I send it back to my sister or donate it to Goodwill. Even if I keep sending...I still have a lot of clothes since I kept on buying...=) I do control myself by avoiding the mall...

I don't buy clothes often. I can settle for old ones and clothes sent to me by my sister who is abroad. I can still borrow some of my sister's clothes. It's not a big deal for her. I don't buy things that I don't actually need. I don't easily get attracted on clothes on sale. You still have to pay for them, right? Well, maybe before when I was still single I would buy myself clothes that I really like but still I look at the price if it's reasonable to be bought. Now that I'm married there are a lot more important things to buy than my clothes. My motto now is "first things first."

if you are sick and tired of wearing the similar stuff over again then you could give away some of your clothes to charity.. ; and get new collection .. a pic or two. and sell the coupons on internet. ;

Yeah but I feel bad giving away clothes that I hardly wore... I like to get my money's worth out of everything.

Yes, i sometimes do. I think of it as an investment. But then I don't purge my closet just because things are getting old. I mix and match them to the new ones. And i must say it's fun doing so! ;)

I am a shopaholic if I have the money. When something is on sale, and it appeals to my eye, I will most definetly buy it even if it's not necessary. I love clothes shopping. I wish I had some cash to burn right now. :-))

Honestly, I'm always looking for sales...Even if I have a lot of money or not. I myself, will buy something even if I don't need it. But it's usually by intention. I think you should throw that 30% coupon away. At this time, you are simply doing it out of habit. But if you have the money and it's not affecting your family in any way then I guess it doesn't hurt either. Maybe if you donate some of your old clothes, you won't feel so bad.

Well it just so happens that I am fixing to purge my closet this weekend. My hubby has been after me to clean it out, he's tired of seeing the messy site. I also love to shop and it is hard for me to pass up a bargain. I probaby have things in there that I haven't seen, let alone worn in several years. I don't have the problem of staying the same size :) Enjoy that while you can! It gets harder every year starting after you have your first baby!

I am buying new clothes each season- I work in a professional office where dress is business / casual. I have to dress up Mon-Thurs. Friday is casual day (jeans).. I am always buying new dress clothes- slacks, sweaters, blouses, jackets.. The clothes I wear cannot look worn and I must be in style. So i am always shopping- I love great sales- I even find some great steals at season end clearance sales! I hate that sweaters don't stay their shape for that long- I am constantly tossing sweaters because they look worn.

I don't tend to buy a lot of clother when I don't need them. Most of the time when I see something that I desire to purchase I wait until it goes on sale then I purchase it. Sometimes when I've bought it on sale, maybe I see it on sale a few weeks later at even a lower price and I get steamed.lol I do purge my closet too. Most of the things I remove from my closet have only been worn only twice. So I give them to people who I believe will use them and not let them go to ruin in their closet.

I dobuy clothes expecally when there one sale. I think you need to update your wardrobe with a few good pieces of clothing. When i do get rid of clothes i give them to the salvation army so someone else can use them.

hers the thing,I only buy clothes on sale if they are brand new.my kids start big school next year and all there clothes are bought...all on clearence sales. i payed next to nothing for good quality clothes. So if its something worth while i WILL spend it just as long as it wont break me. a good idea is to ask for gift certificates and stuff at xmas bdays etc... good luck
