There are a number of websites that have good information on the types of roses that will do well in pots and they will also give information about hardiness and length of flowering.

I'm not sure --I don't know anyone who has tried this. There are a variety of garden websites online though that have a place where you can send your questions in to a horticulturist and get an answer back. I'm sure if you told him/her the climate you are in and what you plan on doing, they would be able to advise you.

your profile does not indicate where you live in the United States so it would be difficult to give you advice because there are so many climatic zones. Your best bet is to go to a reputable garden centre in your area and pick plants that are raised to do well in your growing zone. Some varieties of roses do well in containers, others do not. The garden centre people can advise you on the best choices. Also they can tell you how to overwinter the plants and how long they will bloom.
