Six foot sculpture of Jesus, "My Sweet Lord" stands a Rainieri Casting Co. in Long Island City, Queens. This sculpture is made of chocolate, and the figure is nude showing his genitals. Interesting that it is being displayed at Easter. This sounds sick to me. Can it get any worse? Probably. People will do anything for attention.

I think I heard something about it, but because of all the public outcry, that they weren't going to display it anymore? I had no idea that it was a naked Jesus though. That's just messed up. And yes, people will do anything for attention.

My most recent reading tells me they are displaying it.

Then your news is newer than my news, and that is good news.

Yea, makes me happy to hear too... because there are some things that I just wouldn't want to see... and that display would have been one of them.

That ... sounds ... weird ... at ... best... I'm sorry, I'm a little speechless on this one. I had no idea they were even PLANNING on making a giant, chocolate, naked Jesus statue. I'm finding it a little difficult, to say the least, to grasp why anyone would want to make ... that. Ummm... yeah... okay

They usually don't tell us in advance.

I have to agree that it is disgusting and not "artistic" at all. I think the idea and the art work are beautiful but to feel the need to make Jesus "anatomically correct" and not cover him with a loin cloth is sacriligious at the least! It's sad that this artist's talents were wasted on creating something that is now discussed not for the wonderful work but simply for the purpose of being inappropriate. Some artists take that as the ultimate compliment though. Creating a stir with your art can be quite thrilling to many.

I think that is just plain discusting and insensitive towards Christians. It seems that Christians are getting bashed these days. I'm not some religious whacko, but I was raised Catholic, and it would be nice to have those beliefs respected.

With authorities always trying not to offend a few people, it seems the last group to be concerned with is Christian/Catholics.
