Tonight my family and I went to see the latest Disney movie in the theaters and just because I decided to purchase them online through Fandango it cost me an additional $4 just to not wait in lines, well worth it though. That's not why I'm starting this discussion though the real question is how much does it cost you to watch a movie in the theaters? It cost me $10 per adult times 2 ($20.00) It cost me $7 per child 1 5 yr old 1 3 yr old ($14.00) It cost me $4 dollars for convenience. Grand total to watch 1 movie 1 time not including the snacks $38.00 How much does it cost you is this outrageous or am I crazy?

It is wild... but you can call me crazy... my wife and I have two options. 1.) the AMC theater chain in our area does a promotion where any movie before noon is $6.00 flat. We go have breakfast or have it at home, then we head out to a 10:30-12:00 movie, then get out around lunch and enjoy the rest of our day. Total cost of movie = $12.00 2.) wait until night, and then head over to the drive-in. $6.25 per person in the car, we bring our own food to the drive-in... sweet. Total cost = $12.50 no better way

your lucky to still have a drive-in theatre!! all the drive-ins have been gone for about 10years now in my city. it used to be a great family event...every friday parents and kids went to the movies and brought our own popcorn and pizza. it was great! now its about $30 for us to go see one movie..heaven forbid we get thirsty etc. we hardly ever go to the theatre now..just rent from Netlix!

Drive-ins are very uncommon here in California as well. Trust if they still had them I would love to still go but I guess too many people like to be in warm buildings and don't want to bring their own food.

It costs me: $7.25 per adult x 2: $14.50 $5.00 per child x 2: $10.00 Total: $24.50 to take my family to the theater to watch one movie one time. I would much rather rent the DVD through Netflix and pay less than $20 per month to watch an unlimited amount of movies.

I completely agree and then the movie industry wonders why downloading movies has gotten so popular over the past 2 years. Thank you for the comment.

You are not crazy. That is outrageous.$7 for children's tickets?!And you had to pay $4 for getting you tickets online. Wow. And after all that I hope the movie was good. Can you see paying all that money and the movie was bad?The last time I went to the movies I paid $7. it was a matinee, the movie aired before 6pm.I saw Mission Impossible. It was good. That was last year. It is so rare these days for me to find a movie that I want to see in the theater.

Movies where I live are $8.50 for an adult ticket and $5.50 for a child. My whole family got online at fivebuckclub.net and got discount cards so we can see any movie after it's been in the theatre for two weeks for $5. It's free to sign up and really, waiting two weeks to see a new mivie ahsn't been a big issue.

Thanks for the tip in fact I'm going to check out that site right now. Especially with such a large family that I have because I also have a 4 month old baby that eventually will cost money to see a movie too.

I checked out that site and unfortunately we don't have that theater company anywhere near us.

In Italy I have many options and some offer. Usually it costs 7 euros (about 9$)per adult, but I have reduction (through some special cards) and I pay only 5 euro. If you choose Wednesday, everybody pays 5 or 4.5. It depends also from the theater you go.

Ticket prices here in our country depends on the quality of the movie theaters. There's the not so good theaters, the good ones and the shockingly expensive ones. But mostly, I watch movies in average theaters where we only pay P120 Philippine Peso per person.. it's like $2.30 in the US currency. It's pretty cheap though coz' their movie theaters are really nice, accomodating, and clean. We also get discounts for children and the elderly.

We get discounts but most of the time it's so little it's not even really worth asking for it and if you order online to avoid the lines usually they don't give you the option to get the discounted price.

i hardly go to the cinema because the price here is utterly ridiculous... it is $15 per person for adult... so it already cost me $30 to watch a movie with my hubby... on tuesday, it is $8 per adult which i think is still expensive... i prefer to watch from DVD at home and save the money for something else... it is cheaper and more relaxing...

For me that is really outrageous.Last week me and my husband watch the 300 movie and we only spend $15.We did not buy a snack inside coz it is so expensive,we eat first before we watch a movie,in that way we can save money. In your situation, that's ok as long as you have enough money.

Actually the cost is the primary reason why we don't go see that many in the theaters. This was the first one we went to go see in about 6 months and before that it had been over a year.

Only once I went to the movie by myself. I paid 20.00 that gave me my ticket a popcorn and a pop. That's crazy. I remember paying 35 cents for the ticket and 10 cents for a pop and 5 cents for popcorn, and it tasted better than too !!!

$38 dollars is a lot. it doesn't even include snacks. in my country a ticket costs a little over $4 which isn't too bad. your kids probably enjoyed the movie so it's all worth it

I think it's crazy that you have to pay a different price depending on where you sit at your theaters, here it's all 1 cost and first come first serve for seating.

Just seen Premonition with Sandra Bullock. Was it good.. No not really. Just shot $9 for 2 hours of messy film. The story line could of easily been compacted in a 1 hour episode The Ghost Whisperer or Medium.

I do watch alot of movies, but not in cinema theaters the quality of cinema's around is really really bad, specially it isnt a place to take your family alongside with you, broken seats, stupid screen looks like something from early 1970's.The movies we get their are all bad aswell, apart from imported hollywood movies, and sometimes i go to watch these english movies with friends, and it costs about Rs.40 to Rs.120 thats about 70 cents to $2.00 for a single person, whether adult or a kid and if you include snacks it will cost just about $2.50 to $3.00,yeah you can say thats really cheap, but if you have seen the standard well you wouldnt want to invest this much aswell. Having said that isnt $38.00 too much for just 4 people, its about 4 days earning of an ordinary man in my country.Really very expensive.

i know it cost 7-10$ depending on theater and where you live. i grew up with my father as a theater manager and eventually worked for the theaters, so i didn't start paying for movies until i moved...and man...i used to see movies like every week, now i rarely go, because of the price (which my husband doesn't mind if its a good movie) and because my kids, they don't stay through a whole movie sometimes, the last one they stayed through was Happy Feet. i wa so surprised! i would be fine with the prices if my husband didn't insist on hotdogs a tub of popcorn and 2 large drinks...i mean, the tickets themselves are almost $30 sometimes and he gotta pay for the damn crappy movie food. well, he always loved the movie food and i was always able to get him free food when we went out and i was working for the movies. i guess he liked picking me up from work because he got as much popcorn as he wanted...lol... they just waste the extra at the end of the night anyway.

The price of movie tickets is why DVD sales are skyrocketing! :) I used Fandango once for tickets, and still had to wait in line because the little machine was broken. Didn't get my $4 back either. :( We only go to the theater when DH gets free passes from his buddy at the radio station. DH bounces at a club and the DJ will give him tickets when they're passing them out. So it costs the price of a popcorn and pop. Maybe $10 total. :)

We prefer AMC theaters best. Where we live, the closest one is about 25 mint and the best one is 40 mint. There students are $9.50 and adults $10.50. Wasnt too long ago that it was like $8.00 or something like that for students! GGGRRR We went to see the teenage mutant turtle movie 12:01am showing last Thursday (week ago...) and paid $10.50 per ticket online. I had the movie watcher so the $1.00 was not charged extra per ticket. If we go around here there is ONE theater not too bad either its around $9.00 but with students its only $6.75. There was a cheap seats near our old house, it was like 20 mint away. Movies were $2.00 before 6pm, $3.00 after. We saw many a movie there. They had $1.00 hot dogs too. Really great! I miss it :(( Its too far from this house to matter the savings. But it was the best when we did see them there! :))

It cost us last weekend about $12 for the tickets and then it cost us another $4 for the soda that we shared. It is crazy about how much it cost just to be entertained for the few hours that you watch the movie.

It cost me: 6.75 per adult ( 13.50 ) 4.75 for each child under 12 0.00 for my toddler After snacks i'd bet on somewhere around 35$ Is crazy lately, if you have a big family and live in a big city it can be outrageous.
