I prefer the books to the movies. The books are full of detail and are very rich and satisfying. That said, I do feel they have done a pretty good job with the movies. It's difficult to adapt books as big as the Harry Potter ones, it's a real art deciding what to leave out without spoiling the story. I would recommend reading the books first and then seeing the movies

After seeing the way Goblet of Fire was filmed, I would rather prefer the book over the movies. Having said this it is always fun to watch movies of the books that you have read. Fantasies really make good movies, even a badly made adaptation like Goblet of Fire is still quite watchable and people who have not read the book still generally like it. So though I like to read the books more, I don't mind watching the movie as well. Cheers! Ram

I definitely would choose the books. Especially as I find some of the movies overlong (they prolonged a moment uselessly just to show off the special effects, blah, such as in the second one at the match of Quidditch). Not to mention that books are richer in details too (a lot of charm is the the small details).

Books. I watch the movies (what obsessed fan doesn't) but I'll take the books any day. The movies TELL you what characters are like. You see they way they look, act, etc. In books, you imagine it yourself, and it turns out in ALOT more detail. The movie chops and adds things to suit time frames and ratings, the movie doesn't. It has slow parts and fast parts. I'll read a book over a movie any way.
