Pacman for Congressman!!!!!

Philippines
April 1, 2007 12:50am CST
It's official, Emmanuel "Manny" Pacquiao will pursue a congressional seat against incumbent South Cotabato 1st District Representative Darlene Custodio, but instead of getting sympathies from fans and friends, they even urge Pacman to back out from the elections. In fact, Pacquiao's archrival and friend, Erik Morales, told the press that MP should just focus on his boxing career and not in politics. So what's your opinion? Should Manny Pacquiao continue to run for congressman or back out from the race? For me, it's better for Pacquiao to concede because thinking about the polls could affect his fight vs. Jorge Solis on April 15.

I think "PACMAN" should never ever run for congress... What will he do there? He's too ambitious to do it.. What can he do? start boxing there? well, he should focus on his career not for politics... For my opinion, according to the constitution, he (PACMAN) is not qualified for the position, some politicians know this, but they are just using Pacman for popularity basis...

I admire the courgae of this man. He is not only thinking of himself but the people in his area as well. He may be able to help the country in his own ways once elected. For sure, he will be one among the very few who wants progress and one who is not thinking of graft and corruption as priority in his agenda. I just want to wish him luck, and that he may never fall prey to the cravings of the "trapos". Who knows, he may be able to make a difference. Let's give him a chance. He might be the one true politician we've long been waiting for. :)

Uh, btw, a congressman is the representative of his own area. Pacman may not have been equipped with enough knowledge in english... but he understands the Filipino, because he IS filipino, and he admits to have grown up from rags to riches. He knows what he wants. Heck, he may pay the best english-speaking lawyers to draft his agenda and propositions. :)

how sure are we that those would be HIS agenda and proposition? how sure are we that the laws he will try to pass in congress will not be conceptualized by manipulative traditional politicians?

God, save the Philippines. We can't do anything except hope that things will turn out right. Let us give Manny Pacquiao the benefit of the doubt. There will always be people who will try to take advantage of his inadequacy in lawmaking, but his intention is there. He wants to help his fellow Filipinos, and this is his own way of sharing his fame and fortune. It is his decision. Who are we to question it? isn't it? Don't worry dear. Before he said he will run, i believe that he has already thought about it more than we do. Let's just hope that he does what he says. Heck, i believe that he will no longer be interested to amass wealth because he has already more than enough. A man of simple ideas tends to see things overlooked by people who are tired of the basics. It's time to elect a "fist" in congress.

NO doubt! he should back out from politics. There is no room for him in the politics plus is he not fulfilled with the success he made with boxing? Another this is what does he know in running the law? I don't really thing that running for congress is a good idea. I won't do him any good.

he says he wants to help the poor. LOL. if he runs as gen san councilor, then i'd say yes but as congressman, a big NO. who does he think he is? just because he's got millions doesn't mean that he's intellectually capable to sit in the lower house. i myself can't even understand what de venecia says everytime he is interviewed, how in the world would manny pacquiao manage to understand him and the other congressmen who loves to speak using words that only a lawyer can understand? he must be out of hs mind, and he must be blind not to notice that highers ups are only using him.

First, he doesn't even know something about politics. Second, having a high educational attainment is very important nowadays. Because, ignorance is not an excuse! If i were Manny, I will concentrate on my boxing career and let others do the job. Because that's where he's expert at and that's where he earn millions or even billions of peso, win or lose.

Manny "Pacman" Pacquiao - Manny "Pacman" Pacquiao a tale of rags to riches because of boxing
While I adore Manny "Pacman" Pacquiao as a disciplined and successful athlete, I do not support his desire to enter the cruel and dirty world of politics. His family is already well-off, he managed to help his parents live a better life and he's risking all his hard earned money by going into politics. I'm not sure if he can handle the pressure and dirtiness of Philippines politics eventhough he's named athlete of the year.

This is a total turn-off on Manny Pacquiao. Im actually hoping he would lose in his fight with Jorge Solis just to get his feet back on the ground. I hate his political "amuyongs". The ones who are always around him most especially after he wins a fight. I think they are the worst influence on Pacquiao but poor Manny, he falls right into the bait. He doesn't see that these politicians are using him. He's getting hydrocephalus (is my spelling right?) because of all these attention and he now thinks he can conquer everything. It's a bunch of bull**** for him to even say that he wants to help the "sambayanang pilipino" which is the reason why he wants to run for congress. Can't he see that his strength is in boxing and he can already help a lot of people through this? Kakainis talaga si Manny, may pagka-tanga. He's wasting his self. Throwing away what he has already invested. If ever he wins, though I hope not, for the Congressional bout, it's also a shame because his opponent is a very qualified candidate. Masasayang lang.

What's happening to our country. They make politics look like a circus. No offense to Pacquiao fans, but what can he do to our country? I mean can he rule? Only his advisers will benefit. He should stay in boxing. Don't let others manipulate him. They are just using him. Too bad for him, too bad for our country.

Of course, Manny could run in any elective postion he wants to. I don't think there is any ground for him to be disqualified under the law we have. BUT THE QUESTION IS: will it be beneficial both to him and the people he wnats to serve if he won a seat in the 14th Congress (of all places!!!). What would he be able to contribute in the Congress? Make boxing the national sport? Required boxing in the curriculum? Or promote a boxing match between Mike and Peter? He is so popular and moneyed. Is that why he is running? He should have just waited the right time for him to run maybe 10 or 15 years from now after he retired from boxing. But if he lost in the election? His rival is not a "pipitsugin na kalaban" so he should be careful in there. Well, Manny has a brain of his own. Let us let him run. I am just happy he is not running in my district. Go, go, go Manny for Congressman. let us do boxing in the halls of Congress.

well, cant he just focus on his boxing career? i mean, i dont want to be judgmental and i know he wants to help the Filipino people, but there are more people who acquire the skills to lead the people. How can he lead when he doesnt tried these kind of responsibilities? helping the country can also be done some other way if that would be his primary reason for being in poliyics.

if only MP does mylot, then i would really PM him telling him not to run anymore and follow morales' advice... he's not fit to be an official.. i love him as a boxer, not as a politician...

he is so stupid to run for congressman!! he doesn't even know how to speak in english properly, how would he be able to keep up with the other people in congress and people would only see if ever he wins, how stupid they are for voting pacman instead of custodio..

Let's just wait and see how he would fare with his plans of running in the politics as well as pursue his plans of fighting with another boxer. If he wins good luck for him in the congress there's more to it than he expects it to be. I hope he could be as effective as he is a boxer himself. I hope he learns to know the loops and everything in the congress. I also hopes that he could bring some more glory to his boxing career while in congress. This is if he wins but if he loses then I guess he learned his lesson that being popular nowadays doesn't necessarily means he has already won the hearts of voters. For me it's all up to himself if he wants to run or not. It's his right to do so. I guess he wants to taste this arena since he is quite popular already and would like to try for himself to enter into politics. But for me personally if I was registered in his district he would not earn a vote from me as a voter but I would rather support him as a boxer representing our country.

that is his constitutional right. let it be. but if i were indeed manny pacquiao, with all the pieces of advice given to me by most of my colleagues, i would just concentrate in my boxing career. in this way, people would remember me that i was once a hero loved by the masses. but now things changed...may God enlighten his mind.

No, he should concentrate on his boxing and continue helping his kababayan in his own way not through politics. There are other way he can help the Philippines not through the congress. He will be just use.

boxing is for boxers. Politics is for politicians. Pacquaio is a boxer. therefore logically speaking he should just focus on boxing.
