Writing thank you notes

I just got done writing about 25 thank you notes to people that attended our "surprise" anniversary party. I hated it. I didn't buy the ones that have a preprinted message inside, and wrote a personal message inside each one. It was hard, because I didn't know half the people that were there. Thank God my mom taught me to keep track of what gifts are received from who! My hubby and I attend a lot of things and never get a thank you note, so I believe it's necessary, but a real pain in the hand!
