Can't decide on an avatar!

There are so many creative people here at myLot, particularly in terms of profile designs and avatars. I am deciding on an avatar. I have several questions to everyone: What made you choose your avatar? You may not answer this, but where do you get yours from? Do you create it from scratch? How about those who chose to put their real pictures in their avatars, what made you decide to put your pictures in there? Are you not bothered about any repercussions? I really want to know. Thanks!

I used to have a photo of a monkey with glasses that I found on the web just for fun as my nick name used to be spiky monkey. I changed it today to a photo I took when I was in Egypt last week, its one of the gods, cant rememebr which one now.

This is what I like, avatars having some sort of stories in them, too. Oh, wow, you've been to Egypt?! That's one of the places I want to visit! Thanks for this avatar then, I get to have a bit of Egypt in here. I will miss the old monkey in glasses, though. Thanks for the response and have a great day!

I'm deciding on putting in (just like you) an interesting shot of a certain place or person or object, but should be original. Something that would make people think of what to make of it. Other than that, I'd be putting in my face then. I'm just worried about doing the latter. I think the first idea is much better.

Thanks. I will also miss the monkey in glasses, I might bring him back one day once the novelty of Eypty has worn off. Have you had any more thought on what to make yours?

I was bothered at first because I am a bit afraid that someone may get my picture somehow and misuse it. But the more I use the internet, my confidence in putting my pictures have increased also. I still have that fear that someone may download it and use for whatever reasons but I guess there are just too many people here that the chance of someone using my pic is a bit slim.

That's what I'm thinking, too, if I put up my own pic as my avatar. Well, I guess so far so good for you. Just hope for the best, right? I think on the upside, it's easier to recognize you once your avatar is seen. It also gives a certain personality. You look like a nice person. Thanks for the response!

Mine is taken from some clip art that's included with MS Word. There are a ton of great places to find avatars though! You can make your own caricature-like avatar at either of these sites: http://www.i-am-bored.com/bored_link.cfm?link_id=9962 http://illustmaker.abi-station.com/index_en.shtml You can customize images here: http://www.imagechef.com/ Or you can pick a pre-made image from one of these sites: http://avatarity.com/ http://avatars.jurko.net/ http://www.avatarsdb.com/ Of course, there are a ton of other great sites out there -- just search for "free avatars" and you'll find a whole list. One thing to remember though, if you want an animated avatar it has to be under certain dimensions. I think it's 60x60 (pixels) but I'm sure someone will correct me if I'm wrong. Non-animated avs can be any size as myLot will automatically resize for you.

More than happy to help. Let me know if there's something specific that you'd like that you can't find on any of those sites.

I chose a picture of my children that I took myself off my digital camera , for me it was an easy decision to make as they are the most important part of my life and that is why I chose them as my avatar . And as parents we all believe our children to be very beautiful and I am no exception lol :)

I like that, really. You're really proud of them and it shows. Because of that, I'm now considering putting an actual picture. I'm just curious why some members are okay with having their real pictures shown. Yours is because that's your way of showing how proud you are of your children. Thanks for the response!

You really meant what you said about not being able to decide on an avatar. Didn't you have a kitten first, swatting at the tail of another cat? I though that was yours, but the next time I logged in and saw the guy beating the computer, I wasn't sure anymore. Now you have a 'killer' kitten. So were all of these you?? You have me doubting myself, but I think these were all you...

Oh, I'm always true to my discussions and responses! Hahaha. Geez..you noticed that! I know you must be concerned too. I do appreciate that. Yes, I was all those. I was trying to test how to upload an avatar, actually. I'm not very good at computers; and I was also trying to figure out which are the okay ones to put up. When I'm comfortable enough (and once I figured out how to do it -- hehe), I might even post my own picture as my avatar. Thanks for the response!

I haven't been really creative about my avatar, lol. I chose to put up my real photo as my avatar so that it could be one way for people to get to know the real me. I don't mind whatever they think about me. if tehey think that I am ugly or not, it's fine with me. Anyways, I am not trying to audition or join a beauty pageant but I am trying to share my opinion and knowledge about different things and also learning from others. I don't think it has to do with how I look at all. Another reason is this is my favorite photo because my four year old son took it and it is a nice shot, referring to the shot and not the actual subject. I hope you'll find the most suitable avatar for you.

I'm a Filipino, too, working here in the U.S. I have noticed that Pinoys like collecting pictures as well as taking pictures even of themselves using their camera phones. I have that kind of thing, too, that's why my camera phone is filled up with pics of myself and my family/friends. The significance of your avatar is that it was taken by your son. So heart-warming! Nice shot, indeed, and for a while there I never thought that you already have a kid (you look so young). Thanks for the response and happy myLotting!

I have a collection of animated images which I resize to make them suitable to use as an animated avatar at Mylot. It can be a little difficult to decide what type of avatar you wish to use, but I would not worry about that I was you. The easy way is to choose one that you like and upload it, if you change your mind you can always use a different avatar afterwards. I have changed mine on numerous occassions, and am using a temporary one at present for the Easter period.

That's a very good suggestion. Your Easter (bunny) avatar is cute. Thanks for responding! Happy myLotting!

I used the avatar because it is the only icon available in my computer when I joined mylot. I find this icon cute and appealing with it's big orangy head, frowning eyebrows, cartoon eyes and smiling lips. I got this icon from a bizarre buddy as a token of appreciation and I remain proud of myself.

I actually never get tired of looking at your avatar. It even makes me laugh because whenever I respond to your discussions, some members would even joke about your "large head" which is very funny. It has indeed given you a certain personality so I bet it's going to be difficult for you to replace it. Happy myLotting!

I only decided on my avatar today and found lots of discussions asking about avatars - what a coincidence! I decided to use a photo of my cocker spaniel ready for his holidays as it is nice and sunny. Also it goes with my username which is after him. It is not quite in focus though so I may update it one day.

Oh yes, it's kind of blurry. But guess what? That's what makes it even more interesting. Members would most probably be curious what the avatar was all about and shall be checking it out. More members, then, would get to visit your profile. Thanks for the response!

Asking around mylot or other forums there is usually a nice guy or girl out there to make one for you. cheers Plunt

Thanks so much, Pluntt! I like your avatar. It's dark, yet unique. Not colorful, but looks like it has significance and meaning to the holder of the avatar (that's you, of course!). Happy myLotting!
