Well, I've taken on another project. My 4 year old wants to plant a vegetable garden this year. We live in northern Illinois nad I know nothing about gardening. I'm looking for tips on when to start planting, and what types of veggies grow well. I don't want to disappoiny her by having a "dud" of a garden. So please give me some pointers!! :)

Sorry, I can't really give you tips for Illinois. I don't know what grows well there. I started doing my yard work this last weekend so I can start planting. This year I am only going to do flowers though. Vegies are a pain in the butt. I have only grown pickles, jalepeno peppers and tomatoes, but you really have to keep up with those, they grow like crazy. Have fun!

I love jalepeno peppers, I wonder how they'd do here. My oldest daughter is also on the bandwagon now, she's "Ms. Environment" and is excited about the impact she'll be helping to make not buying store bought produce. I don't care for tomatoes, but the rest of the family does so I will have to figureout how that works. Do you always start from seeds? I have heard of some people starting their plants indoors and then transplanting them.
