What sports do your kids enjoy?

bmx - This is Tara on the top of the hill at the BMX track. She loved to fly around the track. She had a wreck the first week but went right back after picking the asphalt out of it!

My daughter is a tomboy. She loves to do 'boy' things. Climb trees, wrestling, BB guns, sling shots, all the rough stuff. I have never worried about her getting hurt any more than I did when my son was young and doing all these wild things. She joined BMX 2 years ago and LOVED it. Well she did until she had to wear her helmet, long sleeves (with pads on the elbows), long pants gloves, knee pads, and socks with her tennis shoes in the middle of August and we decided to stop going because she was having trouble breathing in the heat. Her poor face looked like it was on fire every time she would go around the track, then she had to stop and rest so she would be able to breathe. At first she was afraid of the gate dropping. The owner Mark and I both tried to get her to go at the drop of the gate but she was too scared of it. I will admit it is very loud when that thing drops! It took us about 2 weeks to get her to get on the gate and go when it dropped. But once she realized that she was losing because of the late start, she sucked it up and did it right. She won a second place certificate in the Race for Life. She did not raise a whole lot of money, but she did get up a little and was very proud of herself for the 2nd place. The excitement on her face when she won was worth every penny and it made it worth every minute I spent sweating in the heat. She would get so upset when she did not get a trophy! It made her mad that she just could not beat the boys in her age group. I tried to explain that they were a little older and had more experience, but she did not care, she just knew that she did not win a trophy and she wanted to every time she raced. She did win a few though. She ended up with three 3rd place trophies, a 3rd place medal, the 2nd place certificate, and a first place trophy. I am very proud of her for every race she ran and whether or not she won a trophy for a race she did her best and had fun while racing. I'd love to get her back in it but the building burnt and the track is not running at the moment. the town is debating whether or not to build a new track, so we will have to wait and see what will happen. Do your kids enjoy any kinds of sports? what are they? and tell us some of the best (or worse) times they have had!

I used to be anxious about my eldest daughter. She is also kind of tomboyish in her manners. Like talking loudly, sitting with her leg spread like a frog and eating with a lot of mess on the table. My younger one is all so feminine. She always sit and talk like a real princess. Very gracious like me. Both of them were engaged in a lot of sports in their school. But they mostly prefer the girly stuff. They will transform their bedroom like its their real house. All the dolls will be their babies. They will even set up a parlor and pretended to be a beautician, a therapist or hairdresser. They will beg me to be their customer and start giving me a body massage or fixing my hair. I love it. :)

My daughter has done all those things to me too, but never a theripst. She loved tea parties. that of course before she found playstation and action figures. Her massages are more like a quick petting, I like her to rub harder and for more than 15 seconds!

Oh goodness, my youngest is only 6 but I think she is a gifted massager. Her hands is magic to my senses. I will even ask her to step on my back just to straighten my spinal cord...LOL!!!

My four year old son does not participate in any sport yet, as he is still a bit too young for the team things, and he is a bit shy as well. We just moved to Florida, and this coming fall we will start signing him up for soccer. He has taken swimming lessons though, but he refused to talk to the other kids. Instead we go swimming at the beach, go to the park where he rides his park and we play soccer at the beach in the evenings, if my husband comes home before dinner.

Soccer is a good sport for the kids. Are you going with indoor or out door? Is it AYSO?

We are in Florida, so it is going to be an outside soccer league. I do not even know, if they actually have indoor soccer leagues here. Anyway, I have tried both indoor and outdoor soccer myself, and I definitely prefer outdoor soccer. To me indoor soccer is to hectic, and I prefer to have the space.

My 14 year old daughter involves herself in any sports, even if she is not good at it. She just wants to participate and keep busy. She plays on the school basketball team and is very good. She takes Taekwondo and has several medals and trophies. She plays indoor soccer and won the championship both years she has played. She will be trying outdoor soccer this year. She took cross country running just because. She knows she is not good at long distance but she did it anyway. She qualified for a basketball free-throw competition and actually made it to the district level, also earning her a medal. And she qualified to go to district finals in high jump in track and field. She does it all. My 10 year old daughter does everything too. She is more tomboyish though. She has always played with boys more than with girls. She is out on the street playing ball hockey, roller blading, skate boarding. She also plays indoor soccer and her team won last year. She will be trying outdoor soccer this year as well. She has made the school basketball team (juniors). She tried out for volleyball and made it but because of a snowstorm they did not make it to the tournament. The first thing both my girls did was gymnastics so they have tons of ribbons for each level they achieved. They never reached competitive level. They both grew impatient with the sport, and it cost way too much money compared to soccer. My younger daughter also tried bowling one year. If we can afford it, I would rather keep them busy and off the streets. My daughter feels the same way. She doesn't want to hang out on street corners and doesn't like the kids her age that do.

Wow, You are a busy person! My daughter is 10. She use to play soccer, but got out of it. She is shy and although she does fine with the ball she is not aggressive enough to keep or steal the ball. She took horseback riding lessons. She really enjoys it but her grades were low and I made her stop them. It was not really expensive. She got two hours per week on the horse of her choosing, but she had to ride each one of them at least once. It was only $10 and the others I had called was $20 a week for 2 one hour rides, with little lessons. She said they would be able to own a horse and take care of it if they took the lessons. She did not give an estimate of the # of weeks. But we went for about 2 months and there is no way she could own a horse let alone ride one alone.

Tell your daughter I said Congratulations on getting second place. She did very good. I am glad she is learning to overcome her fears in order to succeed. Give her a pat on the back for me.

I will tell her!=o} She also got 1st place. I'll give her a hug from you for that one. She is better than she use to be. I think some time she uses her shyness as an excuse to get out of things. I know she is not faking it because she has ALWAYS been that way. Even when she was months old.

I think it is just a part in your daughter growth process. You may not to forbidden her or give limited expression to her. if you feel over, you can use a good approach as solution. May be u have to provide some more women game toys. As the reality all this time this will be change when she recognize adult period

If she's enjoying herself then that's great. I'd rather not join any sports teams since they take too much time. I've heard I'd have to give up half of my life to join a team, and its not worth it to me. I'd rather write a novel. (I love to write, if you're wondering)
