What makes a diet fail? (specifically... what made YOUR diet fail?)

I don't mean why would you think a diet would fail... Let's get a bit personal here. Have YOU had a diet fail, after some success? What happened in your life that messed it all up, when you were doing so good? I'm just wondering how much of a factor stress, or emotional issues plays into things.

discipline is the main factor that made my original diet fail. We are started out determined to lose that few pounds. Then eventually, all diets will hit a plateau that is extremely difficult to break. Then you start to feel disappointed that no matter what you do, your weight remains the same. Then comes that first indulgence (a break you promised yourself would be the last). Then a second, and a third and so forth. Then you start to feel lazy to get back to the routine. This is where the diet start to take a slide downhill and it continues from there. Discipline... that is where I failed.

Also making excuses to justify your actions. I was on a pretty good diet, but I was in school. When it came time for final exams, I told myself that I'd chill on the diet until after I finished the exams so I could concentrate on studying. That was 3 years ago... final exams finished a LONG TIME AGO...

Diet...Die with a t...I have been on so many diets it would make your head spin. I hate them and they don't work for me. I usually end up heavier and more depressed then when I started. I will be doing good and watching what I eat and exersizing and all, then someone will say something negative to me about it or I will be depressed and I pick up something bad and eat it, that's it, diet off. I have fat friends who have gone to the extremes of operations. I try to just be happy and live a good life and not let myself stress out too much. It is a hard battle to win!

The will to keep up with what has been already started is the most difficult thing for me to do whenever I'm dieting, and I guess this is also the case with other people. The longest time I had been successful on a diet regimen is 2 months. I never ate after 6PM, never drank any soda or iced tea (which I totally love) and ate rice at a minimum. I lost a lot of pounds (around 20 lbs) in just a month, so I was so happy and I went on for another month. Afterwards, I totally lost it! What I meant was I started to backslide and it continued on until I gained my old weight back again! It's really difficult to maintain willpower or exact discipline on one's self. Happy myLotting, friend!
