I am currently writing a novel. I am nine chapters into it. It actually started out as a dream that I had, and I went from there. I don't know if it's any good though. I posted it on fictionpress.com. It's title is Worlds Without Number:Army of Darkness. I spent a lot of time working out the plot, and the characters, figuring out where I wanted to go with it. Usually I would get ideas for the story at any time, while doing anything so I started to carry a notebook with me so that I could write down my ideas. Usually they didn't flow well together, but I had the basic idea. It made it easier for me to sit down and try to put it all together. Focus on your characters, what you want them to be like, and the settings that you want when you can't figure out what you want to write. I find that it also makes it easier for me to write when I'm stuck if I have some of my ideas down.

great! following your description of it, i imagine that it could be based for a movie with the likes of "spawn," "end of days" or "constantine." good luck.. as for me, i wouldn't be a good writer after all; the title of the discussion topic alone suggests *GRAMMAR ALERT! what's could be its title?* hahaha.. i guess the editor would instantly put this in the rubbish bin, given that this discussion is a book for proofreading..

I don't believe that. I think that if you think that you have a good idea, and you have people to back it up, you should go with it. If you can find people to help you proof read it I mean. I really don't think that anything I write will ever be published, but you never know. And I don't want to go through life thinking "gee I wish I had written that novel". I want to be able to say, well at least I tried. And don't be discouraged just because you can't come up with a title. Most of my titles come after they are done, though most of my stories are published on fanfiction.net, and fictionpress.com. What's your story about? I'll help you come up with a title if you want!

I started a novel during last year's National Novel Writing Month (NanoWrimo), but only got about a quarter of the way through it. I've been thinking about it off and on, and may continue with it, but I mostly write non-fiction, so it's not a big priority. It does take a lot of work, developing a style and mastering the basics of novel writing, but it's an enjoyable challenge.

I am a freelance writer by trade. I am an aspiring novelist by dream. I have finished two novels, one which I am trying to remarket. It's title is "Nevada Splendor". It is an historical romance novel. I am also working on two other novels right now. It's tough. If you are wanting to hone your skills and the craft of writing, I suggest you try writing every day at least. It is one of the best ways to improve your skills. I write content articles for a site that pays $5-$20 per article, through pay pal. It's a great site, especially for networking with other writers and getting exposure as a writer. Check it out if you like. http://www.associatedcontent.com/join.html?refer=15512 I love writing, without it I think I'd be lost. If I can help in anyway, please let me know.

I would just hate to go through life not knowing if I could or not. I didn't think that I could write poetry, but this e-mail popped up, and I tried it. It's published on poetry.com. It's not the best work in the world, but who knows. And I think that if you can write poetry, you could definitly write a novel. Poetry is hard!

the soul writes poetry; the mind writes novels.. this, i think, differentiates the two from each other..you need to have a continuos flow of thoughts and be at ease in order to write a novel; whereas, poems usually get written at the height of human emotions.. whether you are sad, distressed, overjoyed or head over heels in love, you write poems.. these make poetry writing appealing to me.. on the other hand, i look up to novelists because of their imaginative prowess and skill in creating worlds which they share with their readers.. perhaps,i'll get to buy and read one of your novels someday.. who knows? :)

I was writing a book but I just can't seem to stick with it. You definitely need to do alot of planning, brainstorming, and the like.

this quote is applicable to me about writing novels: "The real reason why I've never tried to write a novel is because I am afraid to discover (that) I have nothing to say." :( ^^^got that from post secret.

I actaully have started to write a book. And I don't have a title at all. I can't think of anything for it. I have the plot, a lot of the characters, and a few pieces of art for the story. I just need a title even though there are many people probably won't read what I've written.

I just finished the first draft of a novel I've been working on and am now working hard to get the second draft polished and fine tuned. I'm in a tentative stage for the title right now, and don't want to jinx it, so I will keep that secret for the moment. As for getting started, it really depends on the writer, but in most cases, the best way to get started is to just start. Write what you want now, worry about honing style and skill in draft two.

Hi Eric, I am a nonfiction freelancer and have written an ebook on woman over 40...i would like to work on a Canadian history for kids (somehow make history exciting for kids - i am a history fanatic!!) In saying that though, I, too have began writing a fiction story of sorts...it is based on a dream and I work on it in spits and starts lol...the idea came to me in a dream also...but i not sure about dialogue, it just doesnt come easy to me...i always worry that it sounds cheesey lol...anyways, right now, i am working on it for fun as i have two part time jobs currently (one working outside the home and one freelancing) so i don't have a ton of time to work on it...maybe when i retire... :-)
