There are some funny and quite interesting names we use to call our grandparents, and I am curious if any of you have some strange names for them. We always called our Grandfather "Postdad". The reason being that he worked for the Post Office as a postman; He must have got called that all his life, because my mother and her brothers all called him that too, not Dad!

My nieces call my dad Papa John, too. Their cousin from the other side always teases them about eating pizza if they say they are going to Papa John's.

How come your niece calls her grandfather "bumpa'? It would be interesting to find out how this name happened; it's one I haven't heard before. Thanks for your response.

Aww, Papa is such a lovely name to call your granddad. Our grandkids call my hubby Poppa (the ones that live in the States), which is also a cute name for granddad. They call me Nana.

I think Papa is a lovely name for a grandfather. Our grandchildren call my husband Poppa, which I think is a nice name for him. Thanks for your response.

It's interesting to find out the different names we use for our grandparents, and where they came from, and why. I like Pop - our grandchildren call my husband Poppa which I think is really cute. They call me Nana. Thanks for sharing Kathy.

My sisters and I, and even my mom and dad called our grandfather "Pop". Our friends even called him Pop. I can't remember why this is.

Pop is a very popular name for grandfather, and a nice one. It's funny how even our friends use the same name for our grandparents that we do! Everyone in our family called my grandfather Postdad, even my mother (his daughter), and all my friends. I think he was known throughout the whole town as that!

ahaha that's funny Postdad? maybe better "beforedad" :) I never see my grand dad and not close to my grandma. but my siblings call her Omma, while we call our mom Momma. Not sure why we call her that, but that's just how we call her and our mother language is not english.

Yes, "Postdad" is a funny name for grandfather, but everyone in our family called him that, even my mother! Omma is different too, out of the ordinary and very nice. Thanks for sharing LittleMel.
