Bold Coffee vs Mild Coffee

When I worked at Starbucks, there were a lot of early morning clients who wanted to order black coffee to get them started. We were required to ask whether they wanted the bold coffee of the day or the mild coffee of the day. Just about everyone responded with, "The bolder the better." What about you? Do you drink coffee black? And, would you prefer bold in the morning or mild? The interesting thing is that the bolder the coffee, the less caffeine it has in it. Because it is roasted longer, more caffeine is cooked away, but it has a less bitter taste. So, bold and less bitter, but with less caffeine? Or, mild and as much caffeine as possible?

The stronger the coffee, the more I like it!! I'm Danish, and we take our coffee very seriously. I also love espresso, and Turkish coffee. Mmmm now you make me want a cup of coffee. I think I will go down to The Second Cup, and get one!!

I hoped you enjoyed that cup of coffee! I enjoy espresso when it is blended in milk and flavoring, but that's about it. I have too much of a sweet tooth to enjoy coffee straight!

Bold, no question... the thing is, I am not a big coffee drinker anyways, and I don't look for caffeine content, so I like the ones that are less bitter and more bold. I end up putting a ton of sugar and cream in it anyways...

The same with me. Ever since I stopped working for Starbucks, I also stopped really drinking coffee. I like the bolder, less caffeine coffee. But, most of the time, I drink hot chocolate with a splash of coffee, if ever at all.

I have to go with the mild taste and weak coffee. My stomach and caffeine are not very good friends these days.

If caffeine bothers you, you really should be drinking the bolder coffees. It's bolder because it is roasted longer and has a fuller flavor. But, because it is cooked longer, there is less caffeine. More caffeine has been cooked off.

Actually, I prefer the mild coffee. But since it has more caffeine than the bolder one then I guess I should change to a bold one. Thanks for the nformation vebela.

You're welcome! Glad I could shed light on something here. Most people who are casual coffee-drinkers drink it for the taste. So, it's better to get a coffee that you like tasting, unless you really need the caffeine!

I usually drink very mild coffee, I don't like really bold or heavy flavored coffees though. I never knew that being more "bold" meant less caffine, I always just assumed that the stronger the coffee the stronger the caffine. I don't really drink coffee for the caffine anyway:)

I don't really drink coffee for the caffeine, either! When I worked in that coffee shop, though, we were required to do a tasting of every single kind of coffee that we had. After I stopped working there, I didn't really have the taste for coffee anymore. hehehe

I like black coffee than the mild one. Bitter taste for me it's ok, and can stimulus my body in the morning. But usually I take mild if I'm in the coffee shop, just to refreshing the coffee taste.

Well, if you want the caffeine in the morning, it's better to take the mild coffee, because it has more caffeine! Both bold and mild coffees are black. What makes them "bold" or "mild" is how long it is roasted, and how much of a full or smokey flavor it has, etc.
