Have you heard of The Grand National?

It is Grand National weekend here in England. It tends to be big here and many people place a bet when they don't for anything else the rest of the year. So I was wondering if people in other parts of the world had heard of it at all.

Well, it has a worldwide audience so I guess just about everybody has heard of it. I don't usually bet on hores but I always make a point of betting on a horse in the Grand National. I think almost every firm in Ireland holds a sweepstake among it's staff for the race. I have won a few euros quite a few times and fingers crossed, I will win again this weekend. I would love to go to Aintree and see the race live.

Would you, there would be too big a crowd for me to enjoy it. It must be very exciting though. I watch it on TV but they usually only show the front runners and the horse I am supporting is not usually one of those!!

Mine is usually the horse that falls at the first hurdle or the one that finishes the race without the jockey...lol.

Silver Birch won today. Did you bet on that one?

Growing up in Finland and being horse crazy I had heard of it - also one of my long-time favorite movie is National Velvet (of which the Grand National is a large part of the basic storyline).
