There is no simple answer to which is better. The lead has changed several times. Here is the list of current CPUs from best to worst: Intel Core 2 Duo AMD Athlon64 X2 (Turion64 X2 for laptops) AMD Athlon64 (Turion64 for laptops) Intel Pentium D Intel Pentium 4 (Pentium M for laptops) AMD Sempron A hamster in a little metal wheel Intel Celeron

Wait the end of this month, there will be a price lowering of the intel cpus. Anyway, imho the Core 2 Duo E4400 is the right choice for your needs. And it has a very good overclock potential ;)

It all depends on your budget, what you intend to use the computer for and how technical you are, i.e overclocking. I would reccomend that you get an AMD because in my experience they are cheaper as you say and in benchmark tests where two similar amd's and intel's are tested there is no massive difference between the two. It really depends though on what your going to use the computer for, are you a player of online fps games? do you do lots of video editing? I reccommend you look at sites like http://www.computerplanet.com http://www.ebuyer.com and have a look at pre built machines that match your budget and then ask for peoples opinions is best for what you want to use the pc for.
