Before bed....

April 16, 2007 5:34pm CST
Before bedtime to you tend to go up and sort out the lamps, pull back the covers and make sure you have everything you need a while before you actually go to bed so that when you are wanting to go you can just go up and drop into it without fussing. I always love this idea of doing this but the harsh reaslity is that I do it about on ce a week. I alwasy have a pile of stuff on my bed as well cos my room is so small, I have these energy saver bulbs that take a minute or two to fully illuminate and it means that I am a good five minutes before I am comfortably tucked up in bed. What's your ritual? ARe you super organised and comfortable or a last minuter like me who is ages before settled?

At the moment my pc is in my bedroom so I'm usually in the bedroom anyway for quite a while before I decide to go to bed. Having my pc in the bedroom is seriously getting on my nerves because it means it's always fairly cluttered and normally I like to keep it really tidy. It's just a temporary measure until the spare room is decorated though and then it will be back in there. I usually read for an hour or so once I'm in bed and I'm scared of the dark so I always have a light on in the bedroom anyway.

I do not take too much getting ready for bed. My bed is already made when I get up, so when I got to bed, all I have to do is slide under the covers. Even then I do not get to go to sleep right away. My kids always keep me up for a good part of the time with their excuses.

I couldn't imagine having kids keeping me awake. I would go mental. Luckily I don't have any.

I can't really say I have a bed time routine except for not having a real routine. I spend the majority of my time in my bedroom these days. A livingroom full of teenagers half the time it's just more relaxing and better on my back to spend my time here. I have my TV, sterio, laptop, windows to look outside, near bathroom and kitchen. It's kinda like my own little apartment in a huge old Victorian house - my little corner. I guess normally when I'm actually ready to call it a night I'll turn off the lights, check the doors, crawl under the covers, set timer to shut off the TV, and shut down the computer. Say prayers and watch TV until I fall asleep.

I was actually thinking the other day after one of my friends responded to my "I don't know what to do" discussion - a change of senery, I need to get out of this bedroom more and keep it a "resting place" rather than an office, living space, project site... Part of my reason for starting to clean my office yesterday.

Yes starting being the important word. You should get it done tomorrow. I am going to sort through all my clothes tomorrow so I have more drawer space to make it easier to put away my clothes.

Well I was thinking about this and you will probably agree with me. Make we should make more time to ensure that when it is time for bed that our bed is ocmfortable and waiting on us looking all inviting and relaxing and seperate from other chores and duties and eevn entertainement and maybe we might get better rest out of it. What do you think?

Well with me i dont know sometimes til i wake in the morning if i have to go to work or not so i will have all of my stuff ready the night before just in case and get my bed all ready. I will have my bath a cup of tea and work on mylot most evening maybe watch the news then i get in bed turn my stereo on low on a timer til i slumber off. I would never be able to just go to bed and get to sleep with out doing my thing or rituals as you call it lol would seem like something was wrong.

I guess you could call it a ritual. Every night before I go to bed I have to shake the covers out to make sure there isn't any brown recluse spiders or those really big fuzzy spiders in there. After, I have to make sure the bottom sheet doesn't have even the smallest wrinkle in it on my side of the bed. It drives me buggy if there is a wrinkle, I'm like 95 pounds and it feels like the wrinkle is digging into my ribs. I also have to read myself to sleep and I have to have the light on because I just know if it is off someone is standing there looking at me. LOL

Seriously, do you have to check your bed for spiders? Is that paranoia or is there really a chance there would be one in it?

There is really a chance that one would be in it. I went to bed one night (before I started checking) and there was this huge spider right there on my side of the bed. It freaked me out. My husband said it was a funnel spider but I didn't care it was gross and scarey.

When i make my bed in the morning i always pull one side of the duvet back, so i just need to climb in, it looks so inviting too! My favourite thing that i like when getting in to bed is freshly washed sheets, that clean fresh feeling is fantastic, and for some strange reason my bed feels comfier! I dont have any ritual before i go to bed though, i dont have any lamps or anything that i put on!

Oh you see I read for an hour or two before reluctantly putting down the book to go to sleep. To tell you the truth I most often than not go to bed with the lgith on because I am actually a little bit scared. Lol.

I HATE to be untidy, but most of times my lazy side takes over. So, yeah, I'm one of those people who's got a messy room, but sometimes I DO get tired of living in a mess and I actually start putting stuff in place. But my mind IS very tidy. I have my rituals, my routine things to do, so that I know I don't forget anything. I like to be aware of what I'm doing and what I have to do.

My friend is like you. He has lists for everything to remind him of stuff to do and what dates things happen on and lots of useful things but he is also very tidy as well.

I'm not at all organized but when it comes to bed time I can be fast in bed (but sadly not fast asleep)I have a large apartment so I only use my bedroom for sleeping, I can read in bed sometimes but I don't keep stuff on the bed, when I go to sleep, I just turn off the light and get into bed.

Well I am always totally exhausted, so I don't really "prepare" the bedroom, I just stagger upstairs and collapse into it when I'm ready to sleep. I'm pretty tidu so there's never any clothes or rubbish on the bed, and I generaly go into the bathroom to brush my teeth etc and then go straight to bed and sleep within about 2 minutes!!!
17 Apr 07
Wow I totally can't go to sleep right away. I will seat and read for an hour even when I need to get up in four hours time.

I haven't got my own room or a home at the moment. My life for the last few years is a bit nomadic lol so I don't have that snug feeling. When I am in the States with Hubby I try to get everything to look pretty. I burn incense and candles every night on his return and plump up the pillows on the bed with our two laptops ready charged for our grand chill out. I really miss it. Now my ritual is to have my last herbal tea with kalms and then I will hit the sack after I do some Mylotting. It has been very hectic since I came back but from tomorrow I can Mylot more, like I used to I hope.

Wow a bed time in your ocmpany sounds pretty good. Lol. Incence, fluffy pillows and a fully charged myLot.

I tend to have everything ready lol, cuz my partner goes to bed long before I do. To that extent, the duvet is pulled back, my bedside lamp is on, and my glass of water is refilled. It makes far more sense to do it when he goes to bed so I'm not disturbing him when I decide to go. I too use the energy saver bulbs and so by the time I head to bed, the lamp in fully illuminated and I can just pick up my book and read for a little before trying to sleep.

I think I wou ld get really annoyed by going to bed when someone is there already sleeping.

I just go to bed. I never get things ready before hand. Often there are things on the bed our room is tiny too. I just toss them off and climb in. I usually never even turn on the light.

Do you know I would actually even prefer that compared to what I have to go through. I don't even have any space to put stuf fon the floor except for the bit I am standing on. Lol.

I'm organised and I like my things to be just so. It irritates the crap out of me to come into my room and find out my kids have been in there playing with the cats or watching tv and have made a stye of it. They will mess up the blankets nd leave rubbish or cloothes lying around. There is no end of trouble when that happens!

I dont have lamps to settle. But I do try to get stuff done before coming up cause the climb up the stairs is harsh too much all the time. Bad knees and all that junk. So I try to get stuff figured before bed even if nothing much is done.

I like to be organized, before I get into bed I have to make sure I have everything I need. My book, my alarm is set, the fans are on...etc. Because once I get into bed I don't want to get out again. I try to make my bed every day and keep junk off of it, so I can go into my room at night and see the bed all nice and neat =)
