30 Minutes Until The U.S. Tax Deadline - I Just Finished Doing My Taxes.

The tax deadline was extended until April 17th this year in the United States because of a holiday in the District of Columbia. (Washington DC)
I, being a person who does everything at the last minute, just finished doing my taxes online. I used H & R Blocks Premium online service.
Now I want to tell you how I feel about going through this process. It's total Bull Sh-t. Tax collection in the U.S. is totally out of control.
I just read an article in the Trentonian newspaper that said that the fortune 500 company General Electric just broke the record with a tax return that had over 26,000 pages.
Who in the hell gave politicians and tax collectors the right to shake us down for our hard earned money?
I realize that we as citizens should support funding for education, the military, highways and other essential things, but this is outrageous.
The amount of taxes you pay depends on how educated you are regarding tax loopholes or finding a tax preparer that understands the tax laws. This makes it totally unfair.
Here is my solution to this problem. I'll settle for a FLAT tax of 15% if nothing else is taken out my earnings.
That means no tax on food, real estate, cars, clothes, cell phones, or anything.
That way we can eliminate the arrogant people who work for the IRS enforcing their unconstitutional tax laws. At the same time we can get rid of the people who steal your money at the state level. That includes all 50 states.
The reason we are taxed like this is because of mismanagement of the funds, corruption and nepotism.
There is absolutely no way the state I live in should be broke. Here in New Jersey, we collect tolls on the New Jersey TurnPike and other toll roads. We get revenue from casino gambling in Atlantic City. We get revenue from the New Jersey Lottery. We get revenue from horse racing. Yet we find ourselves in a deficit.
We pay the highest taxes in America. Something is wrong here. We have the highest real estate taxes and highest automobile insurance in the nation.
Enough is enough. It's time to go to a fair and flat tax for all the people of the United States.
If you don't believe me, then take a look at all the taxes we pay that weren't even around 100 years ago. Here they are.
Accounts Receivable Tax
Building Permit Tax
CDL license Tax
Cigarette Tax
Corporate Income Tax
Dog License Tax

Not one of these taxes existed 100 years ago, and our nation was the most prosperous in the world. We had absolutely no national debt, had the largest middle class in the world, and Mom stayed home to raise the kids.
So now what are your thoughts about taxes?
When are we going to stand up and put a end to this madness.
Thanks for letting me vent.
Lloyd

Wow, that is quite a list, lloyd. I knew of all these, but to see them all written together ike that just makes me more angry, especially since we know our taxes are not being used properly, in country or state.
Too bad all the allowed deductions don't match that list. I am sure our government will come up with a few more taxes for us. Methinks it's time for another Boston Tea Party, except it would have to be a United States of America Tea Party. And it would be against our own government, not England's. "No Taxation Without Representation". Our government doesn't represent the average tax-paying American citizen.
My cousin tells me all the time that she thinks any person that wants to be a political leader, particularly President, should have to live, for one year, as a middle class citizen. Pay taxes, pay a mortgage, pay for health insurance, try to save for their retirement, clothe, feed and pay for the education of their children, and everthing else that the "average American" has to do to survive. They should be made to understand what the "average American" has to do year in and year out to make ends meet and survive the rigors of an average life.
I usually laugh at this suggestion, knowing it will most likely never happen. But, I am beginning to come around to her way of thinking!

I agree. They should live like the average American. It's just totally out of control.
I love the hypocritical politician who are against universal health care for the 45 million Americans who don't have health care.
These congressment and senators have the best health care in the world provided at tax payers expense.
I sure wish they had to spend 400 dollars a month paying for health insurance for themselves and each member of their families.
It is way past time for another Boston Tea Party.

The people who refer to it as socialized medicine are usually people who are wealthy and can afford good healthcare.
I hear Rush Limbaugh refer to it this way all the time. But I never hear his solution to the problem.
I'd rather have so-called socialized medicine than no medicine at all.

You forgot that we have to pay taxes after we retire on our Social Security income. I got a W2 to pay taxes on what I received last year. In other words if your income is over $25,000 a year from Social Security for one person one has to pay taxes. Double taxation is what I call it!

Hi Naty. Paying taxes on Social Security income is just "SICK".
How dare they take one penny out of your Social Secury income.
Who ever came up with that tax should have to spend a year living with a Senior Citizen who depends on their Social Security check as their only means of income.
I actually paid taxes on my unemployment benefits I received. How sick is that?

Thanks for being a voice to the sheeple, Lloyd.
I think it's time to mention the fact that it is our state & county taxes that pay for roads, schools, police, fire department, etc.
The Federal taxes go to pay the INTEREST, not any of the principal, of the deficit owed to the privately owned (by the Rockerfellers & the Rothchilds) Federal Reserve Bank.
Wake up, America!
If you want things to change, this is the man for the job--you know, the one the national media isn't telling us much about. www.RonPaul2008.com
Dr. Ron Paul wants to do away with the Federal Reserve policies and put the country back where it belongs--in the hands of the people. This man has been fighting to keep our rights as a Congressman for 30+ years.
As a citizen, you have the right to know what your options are in the next election. Mainstream media is not giving you that.

If the American people only knew how much is paid in interest on the nation debt they would freak out.
This type of money management is unacceptable.
I've been hearing more and more about Ron Paul. I'll have to look into his website.
Thanks.

LLoyd, you might have been able to get an extra couple of days for your taxes... I heard the govt. was extending the deadline for poeple affected by this past weekend's nor'easter. The federal govt. extended the deadline, but don't know if states did.

Up here in North Jersey, a lot of people got flooded out and had to be evacuated. I just saw a live report on TV of water pouring over a bridge in Paterson--and this is two days after the major rain stopped. The rivers are still way above normal in many places.

Here in South Jersey, we weren't hit as hard as you guys up north.
It must have been bad, since it was declared a disaster zone.
Hope things get back to normal soon.

The flat tax is being implented in countries throughout the world.
Russia has gotten great results from the flat tax.
We have to support people here in America who promote the flat tax. A good example is Steve Forbes.
Do a search on the flat tax and you will see some good success stories.

Well, I know where the extra tax money is going! It's going in their back pockets! they think we don't know there is a way of channeling that money, where they think we won't notice! And most of the people won't notice that's for sure, but I know there are ways to accomodate themselves to uneducated people's money! The rich get richer, and the poor stays poor!

The government waste of tax payers money is enormous. The politicians spend our money like it's their private little checking account.
We have to let them know that it is not their money to do as they like.

Good morning Lloyd,
Glad you made the deadline. I always begrudge tax time as well.
But, now (after reading your post) I'm all riled up about our insideous tax structure. OK, in all honesty, it doesn't take much to get me all riled up about the 'out of control' taxation and wasteful spending in our nation.
Just the other day I was reading an article by a Washington journalist who chronicled how many of our Senators and Rep's went on Easter Vacation on the taxpayer dime. He listed who, and how they spent taxpayer dollars visiting the Caribbean with their families and friends. He even went so far as to list those who were booked in hotels at $1100.00 per night. Spokespeople for the rep's answered the reporters queries by indicating that at least they were receiving "the government rate". Turns out the reporter called the hotels, and there is no government rate.
This on top of Diane Feinstein having been recently 'outed' for war profiteering. She's been caught with her hand in the taxpayer 'cookie jar', for funnelling millions and millions of dollars in PURE PROFIT to her husband's business interests via the Senate Sub-committee on War spending projects, including veteran hospitalization. But, I sure haven't heard of any Ethics investigations into the Diane's scandal!
Anyway, back to the issue at hand. I'm not as much of a fan of the flat tax as I am of the "Consumption Tax". This proposal is the fairest I've seen yet, as it would tax everyone equally on how much they consume. The proposal does include exceptions for 'necessity of life' items, but the exclusions would apply to all. So, those who consume the most would be paying the 'lion's share'. Yet, all would be paying something based on how much they consume.
Incidentally, the proposed percentage is between 21% -24%. Although, the consumer would no longer pay the double & triple coroporate taxes that are built into the cost of an item bought at the register. Instead, the corporation would pay only one consumption tax on the raw materials, meaning that there are no middle man taxes added on. The estimated savings to the end consumer would be staggering!
Anyway, the infrastructure is already in place to transition to the Consumption Tax with little or no fanfare. As the state's would collect the tax, just as they do now for their state gross receipts tax, then transfer it to the Fed's.
If y'all haven't read up on this yet, it truly is the best tax alternative that I've seen yet to come down the pike. In addition to eliminating the current tax code, it would truly empower the people to get a handle on their own consumption habits.

I heard about that too. 100 years ago, either the UK or the US is the richest country in the world. I wonder which country holds the record now? by the way that's just a very long tax list you wrote there! I have done my personal and shop tax, I don't want to go back there again and make a list of tax types, I'll go crazy :)
