Do you give in to child's demand?

This is every mum's nightmare. When a child wants a toy or anything from the shop and we wont buy for him/her, he/she will throw out tantrum and cry out loud right in front of every shoppers. How do you handle this situation? Are you going to give in or just let him/her cry?

My kids so far never demanded or cried for things that are sold in the shops. If I had such kids, I would have taken precautions, not to take them for shopping with me.
