Dr Who - in New York USA - Daleks in Manhattan - Part 1. |
|
Did you see tonight's episode? What did you think of it. It was part 1 and the first time an episode has been filmed in the USA. The Daleks are back, and taking on the final experiment! A scary proposition for the human race where they want to evolve into an even more formidable enemy for the Doctor in his quest to save humanity. I won't give too much away in case you haven't seen it yet, if you have, did you enjoy this episode, and do you think that Doctor Who can be popular in America?

1. jend80 (1384) | 2 years ago | wasn't it popular with Tom Baker?

feliniti (512) | 2 years ago | It has always been popular here in Britain, but I don't know how popular it is in the rest of the world, so I was interested to know.:) I think this current incarnation of the Doctor is the best ever, and I think the storylines are better than the classic doctor who, but obviously it is down to personal preference. Tom Baker was a very popular doctor.

2. emeraldisle (9051) | 2 years ago | The newest season isn't on here in America yet. The last two were shown on the Sci-Fi channel but more towards the end of May in the past. I'm hoping they will be airing the next season as well but I'm not sure when. It sounds like that episode will be great. I've really liked it sence they changed Dr. Who's. I like the current one now but I'm blanking on the actor's name. I do know many here in America that watch it so I'm sure it will be popular here as well.

feliniti (512) | 2 years ago | David Tennant:) http://www.david-tennant.com/ He makes a great Doctor doesn't he? They all have an eccentricity but he also has a lot of humour and I think he was the right choice for the new generation.

3. linzmcwilliams (1124) | 2 years ago | Haha yea it was great! I didn't enjoy last weeks nearly as much. I really don't like the New York accent though! It's very harsh. The evolved thing isn't nearly as scary as a Dalek either.

4. impunityJane (8) | 2 years ago | Personally I find the daleks much less scary when they have names and personalities, however ruthless. In the old days you could rely on them to EXTERMINATE rather than enslave and manipulate you - predictable but more terrifying. It makes for better plots though - I agree that the new series is much more tightly plotted and fast-paced. 'Hooverville' was created in Cardiff. Did they actually go to Manhattan for any of it or was the whole 1930's city digitally created? Anyone know?

|
jend80 (1384) | 2 years ago | the daleks have been manipulating and using people as slaves since their first stories in 1963.

| impunityJane (8) | 2 years ago | I guess you're right, but before 'Genesis of the Daleks' in 1975, I was behind the sofa.

|
feliniti (512) | 2 years ago | Yeah they filmed some of it in Cardiff, the Hooverville scenes but the BBC fact file http://www.bbc.co.uk/doct... states that it was the first time a Doctor Who has been partially filmed in the USA. Not the principal cast though, it adds. Despite how the BBC had originally hyped it up. Still a landmark though all the same.

waynet (1039) | 2 years ago | It was the effects crew that took digital photo plates and added them to the mix, so it was only the sfx crew that ever visited new york whilst filming these episodes, it does appear quite credible though as if they did film in new york, but alas that is the wonder of tv and film!!

5. mummyofthree (1460) | 2 years ago | I think\the series is absolutely great! Can't wait to see more. I also love the torchwood spin off as well! It is a well done revive of the old series and it has done all the old doctors justice. My kids thought the evolution of the daleks was extremely scarey, whilst they just laughed at the daleks!

6. jend80 (1384) | 2 years ago | What I want to know is - why didn't The Doctor reconize the "thing" he found as part the inside of a Dalek? - he's seen inside their casings enough times and encountered the origanal dalek incubation tanks.

feliniti (512) | 2 years ago | lol, yeah you would think so. There is a lot of discontinuity. If that is the right word? I think they get away with a lot, but I haven't seen all the old ones, but I do wonder about that too.

feliniti (512) | 2 years ago | lol. Yeah you're right, it was a bit like the creature from Monster inc haha. I'm glad to hear about Dr Who being popular in the US. I do that with a two parter wherever it's possible, watch the 2 episodes back to back. It's more like a mini movie that way! :)

feliniti (512) | 2 years ago | the 2nd part to this was very cheesy I thought lol. It was good but I thought it was not as good as it could have been. There is still one dalek in the Universe!

10. gaminemadcap (142) | 2 years ago | I'm an American, and I freakin' LOVE Doctor Who! My roommate loves it too--I got her on the bandwagon. I was under the impression that this episode was filmed in Cardiff, along with all the others. I read an interview and they were talking about how it was easier to find the buildings needed for these episodes than for the Shakespeare one because the same people who were designing buildings in that time period were designing them on both sides of the Atlantic. I loved these episodes, and I can say that there are a lot of Americans already on the Doctor Who bandwagon. SciFi has been showing the first two seasons of the new series, and are aiming to be airing season three in the summer. Of course, some of us have ways of getting around such restrictions....mwahaha.
