How do you save money? Do you use coupons? Do you buy secondhand or trade items? What is your best tip for saving a good deal of money?

I save on sales items, promotional items, buy 1 take 1 and sometimes combo packs. And coupons or gift cheques are great too for saving money. And aside from that I think to buy the biggest package saves you more than the smaller one. Have a nice day Lady Justice! (^^,)

These are all good ideas. I also like "comps" or policies that some stores have in which they will match the prices of competitors. You can save gas money getting everything in one place instead of driving from store to store to get their best prices. I hope you have a nice day too. Thanks. :o)

And some stores have also a point system where you earn points on some products and exchange them for a bottle of shampoo or ketchup, the next time you visit them. Its a great add on too. Saves on your budget. (^^,)

That's another great money saving tip. I've heard of points programs, but none of the stores near me seem to have them. I do recall hearing that one in another town has a super saver card that allows member customers to receive special discounts or to get something free after spending a certain amount of money each month. Cool.

The best way that I save money is by having 10-15% of my paycheck automagically deposited into my savings account when I am paid. Instant savings, and it doesn't feel like I "lost" the money, because it never was in my checking or main bank account.

I'm rather fond of that word. ;) To be honest I don't go out of my way to try and save money. It seems that no matter how much money you make you always want more, and yet even if you have very little it's not too hard to find a way to scrape by. Worrying about every cent, would drive me crazy. If I want something, I will generally buy it, but I'll probably shop around a little bit first.

That's a very good idea. It is important to save. I love your word "automagically." I'll be borrowing that. ;o) Aside from putting a percentage away, I also try to find ways to avoid spending too much.

I don't really have just one good tip. I use a combination of tips to make it all add up. I only use coupons if it is something I was already going to buy and the coupon brings the price down. I do shop the sales and stock up when possible. Some things I buy in bulk because I either use a lot or they are things that won't go bad. Use the internet to pay bills. You are already paying for the internet connection and with stamps at .39 now and soon to be .41, this can add up to a couple of dollars every month. Markdowns and clearance items. If it is something I need and will use; there are some good bargains here. Swap meets, flea markets, and thrift shops are great places to save money. You can get both new and used merchandise at these. Our local senior center has an annual sale and I got my husband a very nice computer monitor for just $2.00; it wasn't a flat screen, but it was better than the one he was using. eBay - I buy things I need here for a lot less than I would have to pay in a local store. I also sell my old things here (if they are nice enough); if not, I donate tehm to charity or put them in the trash. Recycle and reuse - a little bit of "elbow grease" and a new coat of paint will make a lot of things last a little longer. It is amazing hte uses you can find for everyday items; if you just use your imagination. Used vehicles are great if you get them cheap enough you save a LOT of money on car payments, insurance, and registration. More than enough savings here to pay for the occasional repairs and maintenance. Saving spare change and rounding up in my checkbook. These add up fairly quickly. Making my own. I started doing this because of my food allergy problems and discovered that it also save a bunch of money. It is healthier because there are fewer chemicals, it is fresher and it costs a lot less to make. That is also true for many non-food items. You can use vinegar, ammonia, or bleach and save a fortune on cleaning supplies without having to work harder to get things clean. Here is a great site - with a lot of different ways you can use regular household items - http://www.wackyuses.com/uses.html

eBay has some great deals available. My husband needed a new "open end wrench set" that had sizes larger than 3/4" and every where he looked locally they wanted more than $40 for a set or $5.00 per wrench for the large sizes; even for the used ones. Finally, I went to eBay and found a new 14 piece set with a lifetime guarantee for $21.95 + 8.75 shipping and handling. So he saved $9.30 + and got a really nice set. Consignment shops, I tried them in the past for clothing; but, in my area we really don't have manyof them and clothing and furniture are all any of them handle. I live 17 miles outside of city limits so a garage sale is really not an option. Right now, I am selling off my old books to make room for more and I already have some "new" (I haven't read them yet) books on the way. There is a link on my profile page if anyone likes to read and when I get rid of most of my books; I will open a drawer, closet, or box and sell some other things that are just lying around and taking up space.

Wow! Thanks for sharing such great information. I have done all of these, at least at times, except for eBay. I do consignment stores instead (to sell nicer stuff). Freecycle is cool too, as you can trade things you don't need for stuff you'd like to have. Everybody wins. Sometimes, getting deals is almost like a contest for me. I can't wait to tell somebody about my adventures in bargain hunting when I get home with a fabulous find. I would have been bragging on that computer monitor for sure! :o)

I am a single Mother of 2 with very little support so I do everything I can to save money I am very frugal.I tried to save money by using coupons, buying only sale priced items or items with rebates, sometimes I buy generic items if I dont have a coupon, I sometimes shop in gently used shops for clothes (I buy most of my kids clothes new), I search internet for samples, I shop on ebay and flee markets, I conserve electricity, I use alot old remedies to save on household stuff like vinegar to clean windows, cream of tarter for hardwater stains, bakingsoda for toilet instead of drano, alka selzer to clean toilet, tang for drinks, colds, to clean stove or grease off wall, and I use or do alot of various things to save money. I don't give into to many new gimmicks like toilet wands, febreeze, I only buy single use products that are necessary like femine products and personal hygeine products.

It sounds like you have a good system worked out. It definitely helps to shop around and find multiple uses for household items (and avoid gimmicks).

These are very good tips. Sticking to your list and only bringing along enough cash to make necessary purchases definitely helps save money and limit impulse purchases. Comparing prices when shopping is also good advice.

I do use coupons as much as possible and purchase only when things are on sale. For the long-lasting items,I will buy and store some away(my pantry is full for friends/family ).I do not buy things that are not oon a sale price and I do alot of comparison shopping.I do not impulse buy and stick to my budget.I try to do all my shopping on a single day to save gas and time as well.Basically,I am a cheap SOB.

We just try to stay out of the stores whenever possible; stock up on meats, and necessities so that you don't have to shop often. Look for deals of course. But, don't fall for the bogus buy one get one free items. And, shop online at places like Ebay and Amazon.com. I bought a practically brand new camcorder for less than a hundred bucks, all accessories included. It was a total deal. Best of luck with your savings plan!
