| Why do Catholics worship and/or pray to mother mary? What is the logic behind that? Just curious. | | | | | |

| | I was raised a Catholic, although I don't practice it anymore. To Catholics, Mother Mary is highly worshiped because she is known as the Virgin Mary, or Virgin Mother Mary. She was chosen to carry Jesus Christ, who died for our sins. To me, it always seemed like Catholics worshipped her, and prayed to her more than they did to Jesus and/or God. I have learned, from reading about different types of beliefs, that we should be praying to Jesus, as He is our way into Heaven. We are to accept Jesus, and put all of our faith in Jesus, and confess our sins to Jesus, and mean it within our hearts. | | | | | | |

| | Yes, that is what I say, the bible says worshipping or making holy any image of the holy spirit or anything or anyone else is considered idolatry, and that is one place where I think Catholics need to realize that MAry was just a tool of the Lord, and she was just a human, that need not be worshipped and prayed to. For our salvation is through Jesus Christ, and we are saved and will only see the father through the son. So, I agree with you. That is why I was wondering what the logic behind the whole mary thing was./ | | | |

| | It's a common misconception that Catholics worship Mother Mary. She is held in high regard for carrying on God's plan of salvation. Jesus had to take on an earthly form so that men would have a way to be reconciled with God after falling from sin. We pray to Mary because we believe that Jesus won't turn her down. The Scriptures have several accounts of her interceding for people asking for favors from Jesus. She is also a perfect role model for achieving intimacy with God. This does not equate to worshipping. We do not offer Mass for Mary, nor do we believe that she is God. The Mass is offered only to the one true God. | | | | | | |

| | Masses are often devoted to Mary. Many hold May crowning masses and ceremonies. She is worshipped, I am sorry to say. The bible does not instruct us to ask Mary to intercede for us. It directs us to pray to God. It does say that the Holy Spirit intercedes on our behalf. Many Christians pray in Jesus name because HE tells us in John 14:14 - Ask anything of me in my name and I will do it. | | | |

| | "We pray to Mary because we believe that Jesus won't turn her down." maildumpster argued that point with John 14:14. "The Scriptures have several accounts of her interceding for people asking for favors from Jesus." I challenge you to provide these accounts, and for each one I will provide you with Scripture clearly stating who our true intercessor is. "She is also a perfect role model for achieving intimacy with God. This does not equate to worshipping." Jesus is our ONLY model of Christianity! He and the Father are one! How much more intimate can that be? If Mary is your perfect role model, what about HIS ANOINTED ONE, Jesus His Only Son, whom He sent to the world to die for our sins? How do you think God would feel when He learns that you favored Mary instead of His personal choice? When you adore Mary, who is glorified, the creature, or the Creator? | | | |

| | Yes, many christians pray in Jesus' name because God says the only way to the father is through the son. But there is no mention of MAry, that is why I wondered. | | | |

| | because they are of the belief that she can interceed for them with God however while i revere mary as the mother of mt lord they are wrong in this for Jesus himself said that only he could do this ! (Jn.14:6 Jesus answered, "I am the way and the truth and the life. No one comes to the Father except through me. ) | | | | | | |

| | i think mother mary is worthy pf praise because she is the mother of god.she is no ordinary human.she is virgin mary who is full of grace.there are many non-catholics who disgrace her which hurts jesus more than her.regarding the bible, bible was written by catholic.imagine when you want something whom will you turn to mother or father.i think you first ask mother(mary) who will inturn ask the father. | | | | | | |

| | When Jesus saw his mother there, and the disciple whom he loved standing nearby, he said to his mother, "Dear woman, here is your son," and to the disciple, "Here is your mother." FROM THAT TIME ON, THE DISCIPLE TOOK HER INTO HIS HOME." - John 19:26-27 Where does it even imply that Jesus actually meant what you said about Mary being the mother of the church? You would think that our God, being a specific God, as evidenced by His detailed instructions for Noah and the ark, for Moses and the construction of the ark of the covenant, and all the laws He gave to the Israelites, would leave out that one tiny detail in His Book that says, "Mary is now the mother of the church"? And he who searches our hearts knows the mind of the Spirit, because the Spirit intercedes for the saints in accordance with God's will. - Romans 8:27 The above passage tells us that THE HOLY SPIRIT INTERCEDES FOR US. Do you know how many times Paul refers to the ones he writes to as saints? Are we to assume, then, that those people he is greeting were dead at that time? But you are a chosen people, a royal priesthood, a holy nation, a people belonging to God, that you may declare the praises of him who called you out of darkness into his wonderful light (1 Peter 2:9). WE ARE THE SAINTS. We pray for each other, and the Holy Spirit intercedes on our behalf. All this is revealed to us by our God who gave us the Bible with His Truth written in it, so that we would not be led astray. As for worshiping Mary, have you read demo3424's post above you, about Mary being worthy of praise? | | | |

| | The Roman Catholic church was established by Emperor Constantine who was pagan. The worship of Mary stems from the pagan worship of Isis. It was just wrapped up in Christianity to attract more converts. Hope that helps | | | | | | |
