When I was growing up mom mother used to save box tops and UPC for stuff. I always remember helping her to clip them and file them away. Now, I am curious does anyone still do this? If you do, what can you actually do with them now?? Or, is it a thing of the past?

I have joined a program here in Canada that was originally called Kidsfutures. The sponsors whose UPC's you sent in after every quarter donated money towards your account. This money was to go to your child's education account. For example, Bounty Paper Towels - you could submit 2 per quarter and they were worth .50c each. Bounty is no longer a sponsor. Actually, a lot of sponsors have dropped out which makes me wonder about the future of the program. They changed the name to Futura Rewards so that we could now use the money for anything we wanted, not just child's college education. We have to submit a minimum of $10 worth of UPC's a quarter or get charged $2. It's unfortunate that great programs start off great and then slowly dwindle with charges here and there and now sponsors dropping out.

that is really neat. I wonder if there is anything in the US like that. Hopefully someone else will have some tips or insight for us. I will look into the one you mentioned as well. Thanks a bunch!

I haven't heard of anyone doing this in years. I don't know if it's still done, or if this is all done electronicly now, with those points cards you hear all about. I have so much plastic in my wallet... I have one credit card, and all the rest are "points" cards for various programs.

Interesting, what kind of point cards? How do they work? What stores do you have them for?

I have a number of cards that I take to various stores, and get points, every time I buy something at that store. When I have enough points, I present my card, the computer "removes" the points, and in exchange for my points I get a certain amount of free stuff from the store.

I send the box tops to school with my daughter. They're worth 10 cent each and your school can get so much money per year with them. This year the school was using the money from the box top points and buying new preschool equipment. As far as UPC's I send the campbell's one to the school too cause you can earn free things with them from campbells like computers and other school equipment. I'm so glad Campbell's is stil doing this. Sunny D just had a promotion going too but I don't know if its still going or not for teachers and schools. Thats all I know of though.
