Paul Newman - the Brad Pitt of his time?

Isn't it a shame that Paul Newman was at his acting heights during the black and white film making era. Or only just into colour anyway. Although the theme of a chain gang is not the most comfortable viewing, his acting in Cool Hand Luke is just wonderful. Come to think of it they must have been colour films as his blue eyes are stunning. Butch Cassidy and the Sundance Kid would have been no good at all without Paul Newman and Robert Redford. Do you like these two actors? Do you agree that he could have done the Brad Pitt roles if he was Brad's age?

Brad Pitt should be so lucky to be included in the same category as Paul Newman or Robert Redford who are far better actors and didn't rely on their looks to garner great roles. Also, Paul and Robert were able to stay away from the gossip columns by living away from Hollywood and raising their families in other parts of the country. Paul lives in Connecticut with his wife today and friends of mine who live near them say they shop and socialize just like any other person.

Thank you so much for sharing this. It is good to know that famous people are able to still have normal lives. I am glad MyLot members know him for more than just his sauce bottles!

That is a good comparison, but also is Robert Redford.
Most people overlook that Brad Pitt is a good actor. Women see his body and his smile and eyes, and I have heard some say it doesn't matter how he acts. Men get jealous and say he's just a body that women go gaga over. Like Paul Newman and Robert Redford, he has both the good looks and is a good actor. He has had parts in a wide variety of movies, and isn't one to play it safe and just do the beefcake parts.
I would love to see Brad Pitt in movies like Cool Hand Luke or The Hustler. How about Brad Pitt playing a part like Newman did in Somebody up there Likes Me as Rocky Graciano.
The way that Paul Newman aged gracefully says a lot about him. He was one of the hunks of his time, but also a serious actor, so I would agree yes he was one who could be called the Brad Pitt of his time.

They must be good actors when we women can forget they are acting and just go gaga over their looks. Hmmm! I love them both. Better not tell my husband.

Difficult choice for 'best response' even with only two replies as they were both so good. Decided to encourage brothertuck who probably has fewer as he has had fewer responses. Keep up the good work both of you.
