Hubby won't like what they're saying about microwave popcorn now...

I just saw a news story with bad news for those that enjoy microwave popcorn with fake butter flavorings. It seems that workers that package the popcorn are getting sick due to something in the flavorings.
What is going to be added to the "foods to stay away from" list next?

Sorry I can't tell you what the ingredient was, I wouldn't be able to prounounce it, much less type it if I could. I just wish they would quit saying all our favorite foods are bad for you.
There's always a problem with something! No oranges at one point, no spinach another, no popcorn, no more fats ooopppss fast food, lol, you get the idea. :)

Yeah, my dad and baby sister have very severe reactions to them, but they never did years ago. :(

Hi venshida. I looked on the cnn.com website to find the story to see if I could find what it was. I know I wasn't able to pronounce whatever it was, but I can't seem to find it. The best I could find was a story that started back in 2004 about plant workers having lung problems from breathing in the fumes from the imitation butter flavoring. I think the story I saw on CNN must have been the most recent update on that story but they only mentioned it the once, unlike some stories.
Either way, you're right, by the sound of it, nothing is safe to eat. It broke my heart when they said oranges would cause cancer years ago. My mom wouldn't buy them for the longest time. Of course, when my dad & sister started having bad reactions to any citrus products, we had to start altering our recipes anyway.

We don't keep microwave popcorn in the house. Microwave popcorn just smells gross, all of the artificial ingredients and fake butter, yuck.
If we make popcorn, we do it on the stove in a pot. It tastes and smells so much better.

That tastes so yummy, it had to be bad for you. I am glad I did not get too hung up on it, plain popcorn microwaves pretty well, then you can use a little oil spray and add all kinds of seasonings. I just do not get to eat much popcorn anyway.

Oh I love microwave popcorn!! I always buy the butter flavored one. I don't make it often, usually because I forget. But I probably have it once a month.

I try to keep it on hand for hubby. He likes it as a snack but I may have to rethink which flavor I get for him now.

My hubby can smell microwave popcorn from a mile away. Even when it is still in the package. In a grocery store he smells it before I see it. He hates the stuff and won't allow it in the house. People at work hate the smell too, so I lose all the way around. I think the fresh popped stuff with real butter tastes better anyways but sometimes it is just easier to throw a bag in and nuke it!

LOL, I don't mind the smell of it unless it's burned. :)That's the way so many of my former co-workers would make it, lol, usually having to leave the microwave before it was finished, ewwww. I have gone thru phases of not liking it myself after weeks of burnt batches. P. U.! Yuck!
