Did you know that Citronella (which is actually an herb) can help get rid of mosquitoes? If you plant it around your patio or house you can help prevent these pests from bothering you during the summer. It also seems to run June bugs - I have not noticed nearly as many since planting! It also smells really good - a citrus scent. Another herb, pennyroyal will help prevent fleas and is a good ground cover. Do you know of any other herbs that will help get rid of pesky insects? If so, please share!

Yes, Lavender keeps away insects as well, apart from bees of course, but they only do good with their pollenation of the plant. Eucalyptus is a good insect repellent too although this would normally be classed as a tree or shrub rather than a herb. Thank you for the information on Citronella, and brightest blessings.

You're welcome for the info. I did not know that lavender would keep away insects. I have some planted in my herb garden as well. I mostly wanted it for making scented soap and for the pleasant smell it offers around the patio.

I had not heard about the pennyroyal but did know about the citronella. If you plant spearmint around your house, which spreads really fast, it keeps ants out of the house. If you were to have some in the house, just lay some of the mint plant where you see them and they will disappear.
