Was God Angry?

TOPHET AND MOLECH IN HINNOM - I was doing some research and found how
in 2 Kings 23:10 it says:
"And he [King Josiah of Judah] tore down Topheth which is in the valley of Hinnom, that no man might make his son or his daughter to pass through the fire of Molech."
Topheth they say, may come from the Aramaic root t-ph-t or the Hebrew toph or taph, meaning "to burn," while others interpret it to mean "altar" upon which the children were sacrificed. And then others say it means "drum," suggesting the use of drums to drown out the cries of the children being burned as sacrifices on the altar to Molech. [This was widespread, and often practiced!]
Was God angry? You betcha! Came with dire threats and smoke coming out his nostrils.. and yes, did some serious kicking butt..
Unfortunately all we hear about usually is the kicking butt and not the reason why.. And also the attributing of people's actions in the old testament to God.. And another place where God pretty much says "if you must sell your daughters in marriage/slavery, at least find them a good home!" as saying God was for slavery and women abuse.. And they ignore how the New Testament says "there is neither Jew nor Greek, male nor female.. but all are as one.."
Do you think God gets angry today? Bible says when a land forsakes God.. enemies will enter their land.. and nature itself turns against them.. ["the bounteous land will become desert.."] - [Good news is, christ has overcome it all, "ALL will be gathered back into God" and the world will be made new, i.e. "the lion will" (once again) "eat straw like the ox, the bear will graze with the cow.."

Yes I believe God is angry with Americans turning their backs on Him. God has given America chance after chance to repent. We did not, so I truly believe that God raft is being poured out. American is going to hell quickly just look at what is going on in this world. People want to take God our of everything then wonder why these things are happening.
When you leave God out of your life you open yourself for disaster and that is what Americans have done.

I often think that a lot of what we think of as God's wrath or anger, is actually results and consequences.. And how better to learn? Once God endowed thinking ability (made angel and man) pandora's box was opened.. The thing I ponder is, we all could have strayed in our own time, all at different times.. virtually taking almost forever for all to get the straying over with.. But here we are, all taking this unavoidable journey (and lesson) together.. It's not only all good.. it's all perfect! God is Perfection so the 'end' result, after His drama and lesson, can only be the best possible 'end' result and outcome..

those are very good thoughts mjsdls, however i would like to add that i really don't think that God has poured out his wrath...I think he is just letting man hang his own self.If God actually poured out his wrath on this world it would be horrible more than it is.Gods wrath is sharper than a two edged sword, and the Bible says it is a fearful thing to fall into the hands of a living God...I personally believe that it is the prayers of his people that holds him at bay,he loves us and he is good and kind, and he is just letting man destroy himself because they refuse to call upon him ..I am a chriatian and i am not ashamed of my Lord, and i know you believe to...i think God will pour out his wrath after he gathers his people togeather that love him...I do not think he will pour it out on his people...He contiues to bless his people while the evil ones are hanging themselves...

I am not a Christian and I have not read what you posted. But I am just popping by to say hi (lol). Seems that I haven't seen you for a long time.
Just a note regarding this topic though. The God in the Old Testament seems a radically different one from the one in the New Testament. It might well be that he has changed his mood (lol) but the one of old seems more harsh and unforgiving.

Can't say I am not a believer but I am glad you are not condemning me because of that. I am part-time Christian, part-time Buddhist, part-time Taoist, part-time Muslim, part-time pagan, part-time atheist, part-time nihilist, part-time etc. Still looking, my friend.
God became "nicer" from old to new testament. Didn't he? He was harsher then. He changed with the times in a way.

There is no doubt God does get angry,I am very aware of that.We were never told, even in the Bible not to get angry. The discipilies even got angry.I do believe it was Peter that cut a mans ear off because of anger.Anger is a human emotion. The Bible tells us "to anger but sin not"..just because you become angry does not mean you have to add sin to your anger. There is such a thing as righteous anger.Jesus went into the temple where they were gambling,he got angry and turned over all the changers and he was angry because they were using the house of God as a Den of thiefs...

I agree, I do think that the evidence indicates that God gets angry. His anger is very different then selfish human anger so we tend to misinterpret what that means. This then leads us to deny that God does get angry or leads us to say that God must be bad.
We can never understand exactly what is going on in His mind since His mind is infinite and ours is finite but we can get at least a little inkling of what He is going through if we try to imagine what it's like to be in His place. He is so pure and so Holy and He is not only aware of every terrible thing that is going on in this world but every thing that will/could happen.
Imagine creating creating all of these people who then damage themselves and each other. Since He is aware of everything that is. For example, say there is a murder. He is aware of the pain/terror of the murder victim and the rage/pain of the murderer at the same time.
Since He loves the murderer He wants to save him and since He loves the murder victim He wants justice for him. With our limited minds we humans can't seem to do both at the same time so we tend to either promote one or the other.
God resolves this apparent contradiction by giving the government the authority to bring justice to the murderer while at the same time seeking to draw the murderer to Himself and bring him to a true repentance so that He can save him and he can be resurrected for eternal life.
If the murderer refuses to repent, though, he will then face more then a human government's justice, he will face God's justice and God's justice takes into full account the enormity of the crime (something our finite human minds can't grasp) and the punishment does fit the crime.
He uses events in this world to bring justice (these things also have the dual purpose of trying to bring us to repentance so that He can save us) and I do believe that there will be future justice... that not everyone will be saved. The Bible does speak of people being burned but it's not an eternal burning. It has a limit and then the wicked die/'cease to exist' and are burned up. Malachi 4:3 says "and ye shall tread down the wicked; for they shall be ashes under the soles of your feet...". This shows that they will be burned up rather then burning forever.
