Is this considered stealing? |

If you take something from someone without the knowledge/consent of the owner but you have the intention of returning it before the owner knew it was missing, is this considered stealing or borrowing?

earth2jacq (749) | 1 year ago | I think he wouldn't because he took that thing without the consent of the owner and he intends to return it without the knowledge of the owner as well. thanks for posting:)

2. webeishere (9520) | 1 year ago | In the yes of a court if there wasn't any discussion about borrowing said item it would be considered theft if reported as such. Bummer HAPPY POSTINGS FROM GRANDPA BOB!!~

3. trinihd (637) | 1 year ago | I'd say it's stealing even if you had the intent to return it because you still didn't ask permission...so for me the distinction between stealing and borrowing is the knowledge/consent of the owner. If I were to draw a scale with stealing at one end and borrowing at the other...the act you describe may fall somewhere near the stealing end if not at the end! Think of it this way, if a person takes something from someone else without consent, then dies before they get a chance to return it, what will the people who find out it was taken have to say? They will probably think it was stolen....unless they know the person personally to know whether they would be likely to steal.

6. wifeofharvey (588) | 1 year ago | It absolutely is stealing, I have no doubt about it at all. If you thought that the owner would lend it to you, you would have no problem asking. If you thought they would not lend it to you, then you are sneaking and taking something which is beyond a doubt stealing. I would make an exception if it was an emergency and something like you needed to drive my car to take someone to the hospital, or police station, and I wasn't available to give permission. Anything else is theft.

7. Lshauna1 (131) | 1 year ago | Yes that is stealing. I don't believe you asked that question! If you was not stealing the item then you would've asked the person for permission to use or borrow the item. In the court system that is considered STEALING. that is just the same as going to the store and putting on a pair of pants or shirt and walking out the store without paying for it. Then the next day (returning the item)taking it back to return. THAT IS STEALING. No way around it just theft.

earth2jacq (749) | 1 year ago | This is a hypothetical question. I did not say I am doing it. This was inspired by one of Spongebob Squarepants' (Nickelodeon channel) episode where Spongebob and Patrick took a balloon from a vendor with the intention of returning it...unfortunately the ballon burst so they were unable to return it and then they became fugitives wanted by law. Thanks for the post.

8. chase07 (1942) | 1 year ago | Stealing is getting things without permission and without the intention of returning it. Barrowing, when the person knows and gave you the permission. with your question that depends on your relationship with the person who owns the thing...
