Working at Walmart email this discussion to a friend?

Wow, where do I begin. Walmart is a great place to shop at, don't get me wrong. But let's just say that working there is not as pleasurable as shopping there. Let's see, they don't care much about their employees, they seem to only care about the money that is coming in. I've had terrible experiences working there, so has my Husband, Father in law, and Sister. They hire little 16 year old who really don't care much about working, they just work there because their parents told them to get a job. They do a terrible job working but they seem to last the longest at the job. The people who strive to do their best are the ones who get fired. I personally decided to quit. I was pregnant with my son, I had just had a miscarriage a few months before so I was trying to be extra careful. I was a cashier, which isn't a very hard job at all.. But they never gave me my breaks when I was supposed to get them, so here I am, 6 months pregnant, having to stand up (they wouldn't give me a stool to sit on) for about 5-6 hours at a time. Talk about swollen feet! No one seemed to care much about me. I asked for another job in the store, one where I could take some breaks when I needed them, they told me they couldn't help me!

Does anyone else have any stories from working at walmart?

No I don't or never have worked at Walmart in fact I do not think we have one in the UK it sounds like you were not treated very well though. I am sorry to hear about your miscarriage it sounds like they were nasty and not understanding.

Walmart is great to shop at, they have great prices! So if you ever get one, you'll enjoy it, but you shouldn't work there!

I agree with you, I use to work there (and during my pregnancy with my daughter), it is a terrible company to work for. The pay was fine, but the company in general doesn't care about the employees, just the money coming in! I wouldn't suggest to anyone to work there. I am glad I am not the only one who didn't enjoy working there. I quit after I had my daughter because they wouldn't change my hours so we wouldn't have to put our baby in day care, we wanted to work opposite shifts and they wouldn't do anythng to help us out.

The pay is not very good becouse we are on a pay scale and can only make so much money know in about three more raises i will be caped out and not make anymore money. I love my night managers they are cool they will talk to us one on one and work with us.

I also heard how they dont care for there employees ive been hearing that a lot on the news latley wich is why I never wanted to work there but now I wouldnt mind I was speaking to someone today that use to work there that they treat there employees pretty good and the pay is about $8.40 to start off thats over a $1 where I work wich is at stop and shop and they get discounts on stuff they buy there wich is a reason why I want to work there.

Rmcc06 (6)   ranked 1 out of 13 in walmart  3 years ago

Walmart doesn't start you off at 8.40.. I'm not sure who told you that.. But I started off at 6.70. It's more if you have a lot of experience, but I don't think that much more.. And it's only a 10% discount, and that's not on any food items, just other items.

It depends on where the Walmart is located on how much they start people at. In Scottsbluff, NE the starting wage for a cashier is about $7 an hour. In Casper, WY it is amost $9 for cashiers. And in Gillette, WY the starting wage for cashiers is a little over $13 an hour. It just depends on how high the cost of living is, how desperatly they need the help, and what the stores in the area offer for starting wage because they have to stay competitve. The 10% discount is for anything that you would have found in one of the "old" Walmarts before they all started selling groceries.

I have never worked there personally but a couple of my friends have worked there and say it is the pits to work there. They say the same thing as you have said. That that is one place that doesn't place a value on a good worker. They just walk all over them. I am sorry that you and those you love have had such a bad time at a place of employment.

Your story is interesting. I think that everyone has something negative to say about some place where other people think that the place is so great. It is so unfortunate though.

I guess it depends on what store you work in because I don't have these problems at my store nor does a lot of my fellow employees. Most of the employees in my store has been there for years. Someone gets sick or a family member gets sick, they are understanding. We're like one huge family and care a lot about each other. Also, our management awards us for everything whether it be pizza, grilling steaks for all of us, washing our cars, making us root beer floats, doughnuts every Friday, something special on your birthday. I was even offered to transfer to another store for more pay and I declined because I don't want to lose the work environment that I'm in. It's the best environment I've worked in. That might explain why customers prefer our store over any other store in our district. Many customers have said they may have a Wal-mart five miles from their house, but will come to our store because associates are more cheerful and happy to help them.

My fiancee use to work at Wal-Mart. She would constantly complain about how employees were being treated. How some employees were yelled at for taking their breaks while other employees were allowed to take extended breaks. I have had an aunt work there as well with some of the same issues. Here lately I haven't found shopping at Wal-Mart to be all that pleasant either. Yes on most items they have good prices but its hard to find an associate that really wants to help the customers. Or when you are ready to check out you have to wait in line for what seems like hours. Wal-Mart has gone downhill since Sam Walton passed away.

I worked at the one in my town for four years off and on in the shoe department. They always had some excuse why I couldn't be made full tim which full time is what 35 hours a week 38 tops. So i got tired of them and when to work with one of my friends that made manager at a fast food place. The job was easier and I got payed a lot more then i did at Walmart. I would never go back to work for them again.

No I don't and won't work at walmart. But just a tip you can pull and it will work next time you need a break act like your going into labour and have it so that an ambulance comes and gets you they will have to pay for that. Then when you get through at the hospital they will have to pay for that too. Then when you go back to work for them they will be scared not to give you your breaks....lol. Then you have a thing called labour laws and they have to follow them. If they don't keep track of everything and take it to a lawyer and he will deal with walmart. Or do what I did write the copr office this morning cause I have asked the manager of the local walmart to raise the toilet tissue holders cause I have a bad back and can't bend. Don't let them get away with nothing they have laws they have to follow. And you have rights.

I don't really like Walmart for a lot of reasons, it's usually dirty, crowded, and...I don't know, they are so money hungry. When I shop I usually try to avoid Walmart.
