From a scale of 1 to 10 (10 being the lowest and 1 being the highest), how do you rate Akira, and what's the reason/s behind your rating? Do you find it a good movie or a bad one (if possible, kindly supply the criteria you've used, if any)?

I'd give it a 2.
The only reason I didn't give it a 1 is because I had to watch it 2 times to fully understand it (this is sometimes necessary for a lot of anime). I liked the plot, it fulfilled my quota of violence, and any movie in which a person can crush an entire army with the power of their mind is cool in my books.

I fully agree with you, Latrivia. The movie is really quite perplexing and that makes it all the more intriguing and enjoyable to watch.
By the way, do you know any other anime movies (I'm really not into this but after watching Akira, I'm craving for more) that are interestingly mind-boggling or those with excellent plots? If you do, can you kindly recommend some titles?
Thanks in advance!

Akira is a classic. It was ahead of its time: it used animation techniques that can't be rivaled even with today's studios. It discussed the ethics of genetic manipulation and technology while exploring life in the slums--something the regular sci-fi fare at the time cannot put together harmoniously, or even think of exploring (the only one to rival this for me was Barefoot Gen). It's a definite 1, and all anime should follow in Akira's footsteps.

I'd give it a 2. Cool plot and cool artwork definitely merits a 2!
