I have a 5 year old and I do not allow her to drink pop. I feel that the longer I can control this, the better. Last week at daycare, they had a cinco de mayo party and another classmate brought 7-Up. So...my daughter ended up having her first taste of pop and she liked it. My ex called the daycare and told them never again because we don't allow her to drink pop. So my question is, first...do you let your young kids drink pop, and second...do you think it's appropriate for a daycare center to serve pop to children?

My kids get pop on special occasions. I wouldn't be thrilled about a daycare serving pop, but I wouldn't complain if it were only a special occasion thing. There are certainly better choices.
You don't have many years left to control what he eats and drinks. Once they are in school, they have more and more opportunities to buy their own junk food.

yes, but its not like they drink it all day and every day. i will allow them to get some when we go out to eat as a treat. i dont buy it so its not in the house for them to want it. its our right as a parent to watch out for our kids and there health and weight. you are a great parent and she will appriciate it later

I only have a 15 month old and he definitely doesn't drink any pop yet. We are thinking we MIGHT let him when he's about 3 or 4, but even then only rarely.
I think it's wrong for a daycare center to serve pop. IF they are going to, they should check with all the parents first. It isn't right to allow young children to have something like that without checking with the parents first.

I have a 1 year old and a 3 1/2 year old and they do not get pop. I have let my daughter the 3 1/2 taste it and she doesn't like it. Yea good for me I don't have to worry about that. But I used to work in daycare and we had to notify the parents if we were having a party and pop was served. We had some parents that didn't allow their children pop so we just substituted it with something that they could have. Same as on field trips we used to get pop but get something different for the children who couldn't have it. I think that the daycare should have asked you first before giving it to your child.
