What to do with my front yard?

After years of being ok, my front yard is now bordering disgusting. MY mother in laws attempts to make it look better are a laugh. Actually they made it even worse with the pretense of a fence all twisted, and the plastic flowers... we must be the only people that have wonderful roses even during winter.. a pity that they're plastic.. and I can't even say anything because to do so I needed to have a solution and I don't. Or rather I do have the ideas, but not the money LOL
WE have no grass anymore either. My father in law kept killing it somehow. So my mother in law got those gravel things brick coloured and put it all in there except on 3 little circles where she put the plastic roses LOL
In any case I would like some suggestions. It's a small front yard, more or less the size of the one on this picture. Slightly slopping, and no matter what I can't put flowers there. My lack of a green thumb is notorious, and I don't have much time to dedicate to it either.
I was thinking about a few bushes about 3 not too tall, that would cover the wood fence that covers the recycling bin and the food garbage box. THen maybe a path with stones and I don't know what else. I would probably want to use the gravel but not the way it is, more decorative I supposed and then maybe some green plants, I kill those less than flowers :):):
ANyway what can I do with it???? Fifty!!! where are you heheheh

I don't have much of a green thumb either, but I think the bushes are a good idea. In place of the roses, you could get some lawn ornaments that aren't so "plastic" looking. I'll add a picture as to what i am talking about. Maybe a bird bath? You can get those where they are very pretty. Then you could arrange the gravel around some stone pavers. Also, get a brighter color gravel or pebbles to mix in with the gravel. If you get a lawn ornament like the one I show, then you can get the gravel or pebbles to match. Then maybe some lawn stake lights, the ones that are solar are nice to light the path. Just some ides, you could do one at a time if money is an issue.

There is a family of basically green plants called sedum. I think they are almost indestructible. My mom always had them in planters, and later on in her yard.(they escaped the planters). When I moved to Kansas, my friends who had them actually called them cemetery moss. You do not have to mow them, the foliage can be different shades of green. They sometimes have small white or yellow flowers. If a piece breaks off and falls to the ground, it grows roots and becomes a new plant. I personally would like to plant creeping phlox between the sidewalk and the street at my house, it blooms in the spring, and then has tiny needly foliage that stays green and short all summer. Looks like a soft green carpet, and I think it would be good in hard to mow areas. I think if I were looking for pretty shrubbery, I would try to find a holly variety that was suitable for your area.

I would put in a pond, then you won't have to worry about grass, as people will be looking at the pond. Fish are fun to watch and really relaxing to me. Bushes are great and easy to grow.

Hello Arkaf!
As you said you you can not spend much time for gradening, so try this. Just clear the surface of your front yard and fill it with small pebbles or stones. Then Put two or three chairs, a round table and set a big unbrella like cover.
Now,I hope you will be able to enjoy tea in morning and evening by sitting there.
