What type of cooking oil is the healthiest?

I'm in search for a cooking oil that is healthier for my body. I used to use butter (mmm) like crazy but have been using olive oil for most of my cooking/frying for awhile now. Is there anything healthier to use other than olive oil? I heard that coconut oil helps boost the metabolism but I need to do more research on that first.

I can't tell you which oil is personally best for you. After researching the information we use cocnut oil and olive oil the most. Here are a few facts that we learned. Canola oil is low in saturated fatand high in monounsaturated fat. Is surpose to lower the risk of heart diease. Olive oil is rich in monounsaturated fat and antioxidants. Its at its healthiest when it is uncooked. Surpose to help lower cholesterol levels and reduces the risk of cancer. Butter is all natural, no chemicals. Offers sources of vitamins A,E,K, and D. Coconut oil raises the metabolic rate. Causing the body to burn up more calories.

So what happens to olive oil once it is cooked to make it less healthier?

Oils high in monounsaturated fat (which only lower LDL "bad cholesterol") and low in saturated fat (which increase LDL) like olive oil, canola oil, and peanut oil (in said order) are healthier than other vegetable oils. However, coconut oil having the highest saturated fats among vegetable oils are mostly medium-chain saturated fats that does not change chemically with very high temperature and makes it one of the best cooking oil.

I use olive oil too. I also use vegetable oil for somethings like baking cakes. I think olive oil is pretty healthy. It's the one my doctor recommended.

Hi dimples! I think Olive oil is the best oil to use. While increasing olive oil in our diet we also need to reduce animal fats to obtain a perfect combination for prevention of fatal diseases like arteriosclerosis, heart attacks, gallstones and many more.

OLIVED OIL has many health benefits, although more expensive than other oils. Its has mono-unsaturated fatand is the preferred cooking oil n the mediterranean countries. Studies that found that the consumption of olive oil can lower the risk of coronary heart disease by reducing blood cholesterol level and blood clot formation. Research has also found that olive oil may influence body fat distribution, with less fat stored around stomach.Olive oil is thought to offera number of other health benefits, including reduced risk of some cancer, reduced risk of diabetes, and possibly a delayed onset of complications in established diabetes. It contains many a antioxidant phytochemicals that have many halth benefits.YOu can used for preparing salad dressing, seasoning for soups, for sauting vegetables and for grilling.

For years, we have used vegetable oil. then my mom went to using Canola Oil, which she said was better for your health and such. Now, she uses Olive Oil, which is darn good. They even got it for hair as well. But Canola, Vegetable and Olive.

Well I have never researched this but have been told that peanut oil is better than vegetable oil. I have reason to believe it is true because I have since used peanut oil to fry my french fries and I noticed they are not as greasy when using the peanut oil.

Coconut oil is amazing! Go to http://www.tropicaltraditions.com to read more about it. Of course you'd want to use the virgin coconut oil or the expeller pressed if you're going to ingest it. The refined type can clog up your arteries. Olive oil is great for cooking/frying if you don't try to reuse it after you've used it to fry. Just put a light coating in your skillet to fry foods and don't reuse. The heat changes the composition of the olive oil and it isn't as healthy.
