Do you live near beaches or lakes?

I live in a suburb of Boston, MA that is right on the coast of the Atlantic Ocean. It's beautiful to look at but our beaches are basically very dirty. Most of the summer we can't even swim in them. Sometimes the smell that comes from them even makes it uncomfortable to walk or ride by. When their clean it's so nice to be able to look out at the waves or the calm water on a nice sunny day and enjoy the breeze that you get. But when it's dirty all you see is the seaweed and trash washing up on the shore. Not a pretty picture. Are you lucky enough to live near a clean, healthy beach? Do you take advantage of it by going there often?

Ahhh, another place I've never been to. I wouldn't care to live too far from an ocean or lake.

I live in New Hampshire where people come to take vacations in the summer, winter, fall and spring. I am about an hour from our seacoast, and I also live near many lakes. It is beautiful country here in NH.

You are so right. I even go to NH in the summer for swimming because the lakes are so much cleaner than ours here in MA.

I live in Oceanside California, actually Camp Pendleton Marine Corps Base, we are about 4 miles from the Ocean. Our base housing is on top of a mountain and we can see the ocean from our front lawn on a clear day

I used to live in Oceanside and very close to Pendleton too. You are very close to a gorgeous, clean ocean and I am so jealous of you! lol...

Not that I know of. I'm new to Virginia so I'm not sure if there is a beach or lake around here. Would be nice though. I lived in Samoa for six years and had access to the beach everyday. Was nice if we spent a long weekend at the beach - beautiful waking up to the sound of the water, smell of the sea, fresh air, bbq etc. I miss it from time to time.

Moving from a place where you can frequent a beach or any kind of water has to be hard. I also love the smell of the fresh sea air...when it's clean.

I grew up in Michigan so I was never more than an hour away from one of the Great Lakes. Lake Michigan has beautiful beaches. They are white sugar sand like you see on ocean beaches. We are moving to Ohio soon. We will be close to Lake Erie, but it sometimes in not safe to swim in. They have been trying to get it cleaned up though. We also will be living close to a smaller lake that is great for swimming and fishing.

Unfortunately I don't live near the beach or lake. I live near the park and a department store. So at least it's convenient.

Living in an area of convenience is always a plus isn't it? It's always nice to be able to travel to go to a beach or lake.

beach - beach in marinduque
i live near the beach, too. it's just 15 minutes when you walk from home. we are lucky to live near nice, clean beaches where schools of fish are still plenty, corals are still alive and the water is still crystal clear. it's sad to hear beaches being destroyed because of pollution and irresponsibilities of people.

I live fairly near Lake Superior, since I'm in the Upper Peninsula of Michigan. If I cross just one street (and there's even a tunnel going under the street) I am at a beach which is on Portage Canal, which runs between the Keweenaw Peninsula and the rest of the Upper Peninsula. It's a decent beach, though not as nice as going a little further and actually being on Superior. I have friends that have cabins right on the lake, and I love going out there. We have fireworks there shortly after the Fourth of July, and all go swimming and everything. It's very clean there, and you can see so far down in the water it's unbelievable!

I live in Southampton, England. Rumour has it that we used to have a beach, but something happened and how we only have docks. We live near a marina, which is still quite pretty to go and visit, but its nothing like a beach. I'd love to have a beach here, it would be something cheap to keep me and my friends entertained in the summer! x

I live about 20 minutes from the Atlantic. I like to go to the beach but not in the summer. In the winter is way more calm and I can enjoy it more. It is a clean beach, and sometimes they do campaigns to help cleaning the beach.
