Charles Manson... parole or no parole, that is the question

For the last 10 parole hearings, Charles Manson has been denied, the most recent one in 2002 was because of many in-prison offenses including drug trafficking, arson and assulting prison guards. He is now up for another parole hearing on May 23, 2007. He will be 73 years old in Novemeber, he has spent the last 36 years of his life in prison for murder of which he did not commit but orchestrated and had his followers do.
Do you think he has done his time and should be released? or should they throw away the key and not even bother to have parole hearings?

As one other poster pointed out Charles Manson has at every parole hearing told them not to release him. That if he gets out he would kill again. It's that simple. I don't think they will give him parole based on that and his other actions. Keep him in and let him die in there. It's the best thing for society as a whole. If he got out there would be no stopping him and he would cause more deaths.

OMG NO. I would be scared if they let him out. They shouldn't even bother with the hearings. Sounds like a waste of time and money when (hopefully) he will always be rejected. I think if he got out he would do the same stuff still, reguardless of his age. I hope he never gets out! I would be afraid for whatever community and state he lives in.

Though there was no evidence Charles Manson personally killed any of the victims, he was found guilty of the murders and I believe he should never get parole. I don't think he ever will. He is a murderer. It's been years and he hasn't changed at all. So I doubt he will ever be out on parole.

I just wrote a 5 page paper on Charles Manson. He's admitted so many times he know he's a nut and he does not want out of prison. He thinks HE'S safer in there. There isn't a very high chance he'll be granted parole. I think they're better off throwing away the key and not having these hearings anymore. They're a waste of money and time. He's missed his last few hearings, who's the say he's even gonna show up at this one? Unless he's really smarten up and shown he can be trusted (Doubt it) I don't see them releasing him.

I don't think the man has a chance in the world of being released. He shows absolutely no remorse for planning out any of the murders and he has threatened to kill prison officials. I don't care how old he is and how long he has spent in prison, he needs to stay there. I think if by some chance he did manage to get out someone would either hunt him down and kill him or he would form up another cold and go on another killing rampage. I think he is exactly where he needs to be right now.

I don't think they should offer him parole. How many people do you think that are still alive, that used to be his followers that would be right there with him again? I also feel that there would be new followers that were curious after reading and hearing stories on Charles Manson. He may not have commited the murders, but for some unknown reason, people would do as he said or as he thought, and that is a very good reason to keep him where he is. I read some books and saw some TV programs with him on them, and he truly seems sadistic to me. There is just something about him that seems untrustworthy to me. I don't know, but he did have a lot of followers and there was a lot of crime done with him as the leader of the pack, even though he may not have been in on the actual acts. Throwing away the key would be the best thing.

I do not think that he should be allowed in the streets, even if he did not kill with his own hands I am sure that he had alot to do with it all and I think that he should spend the rest of his life in jail for it. What will he do here on the outside anyways? Make the world an even more unsafe place... nah, keep him in there and throw away the key

No I dont think that he should be let out, how do they know thaat while he is in prison that he has not been orchestrating to do the same thing again when or if he gets out. but I think that the family members of the people that got killed will make sure that he stays in there and the streets will be safe from him. But we never know he could still have people on the outside working for him and we just dont know it. I say let him die in there.

I wonder why he has been in for this long as it is. I think the government needs him in there, have you seen his following?? Some say he has a bigger following than Jesus. I doubt that. Anyway, it's safer for the public if he's locked up. Right. All he did was tell some people to do something terrible, and they did it! Idiots. They chose to go to the house and kill innocent people, of their own free will. Maybe I'm wrong, I've never been brainwashed, but I do know I'm not going to do something that severe on someones say-so. Let him out, what's he gonna do? Get more followers to kill more people? It's funny how much people are concerned by Manson, he didn't actually kill anyone. He just talked a good game. I'd rather have Manson on the street, than these rapists and child molestors the government releases due to 'overcrowding' and 'budget cuts'!!

Yes it is true he has many followers, I don't know if I would say as many as Jesus though. I believe he has even more than when he was first convicted of his crimes, so to let him out would be a huge mistake, just my own 2 cents.

I definitely think he should receive no parole hearings. I'm very much afraid that if this man should be released he would do the same thing or even worse. The man has shown no remorse for the things he has done so I don't think he should be shown any mercy himself.

I think they should though away the key.If a person is that capable of influencing people to do such horrific things they are a danger to the public. Look at his behaviour in prison, that shows you how much he hasen't changed.I think he has been in and out of jail all his life, if l remember correctly. Charles Manson is one sick scary monster that needs to stay right where he is.

You're correct, he has been in and out most of his life. I believe his prison career started at the age of 13.

To me his age makes no difference.
He did what he did and still has no remorse.
He's stated more than once that if he gets out, he'll do the same thing again.
Should there even be a question about him ever getting out?
gives me chills to think they'd even give him parole hearings.

I think they should just forget about parole hearings. Do they have to offer them periodically? Is there no point the justice system can just say, right, we're done, you've exhausted the system and our patience? Why wouldn't additional charges automatically negate the possibility of parole? I would not want that guy back on the street. Is he still in San Quentin?

You would think that because of his behavior in the prison they would stop even thinking about it. I personally don't see how they can consider it since it is obvious he is still just as evil as he was 36 years ago and has not learned a thing about being a stable, productive citizen. I don't think he has anything worthwhile to offer to anyone in society.
He is in California's Corcoran State Prison.

in the first place, i don't even think he is worthy of being granted his sentence with the possibility of parole. why bother?
regardless of whether the murder/s that he was tried foe were committed by his own hands or by his orchestration and committed by somebody else does not make him free and clear of the crime. if he masterminded and plotted to kill, he should take the blame for it.

Manson should never get out of prison.
I think the parole hearings are just a formality in his case, they are usually required every so many years so he has to have them.
I doubt that he will ever get out.
