 I have a friends baby shower to go to in a month. Is it better to buy clothes, toys, etc... or just to give the mom a gift certificate somewhere to get stuff themselves

Sometimes I throw in a baby classical CD and things like that. I put it in a cute laundry basket and it is ALWAYS very well liked. | |

When I threw a baby shower for a friend. I asked everyone to bring a container of wipes, baby wash etc. it was great.
I personally think gift certificates are impersonal
