How many Bibles do you have? |
| |
| I know it's not how many you have, but how much you read them... but still, I'm curious. I have 3 King James versions, one regular, a Thompson Chain Bible and a Dake's Annotated Bible. I also have a New International Version, The Living Bible, The Amplified Bible, The Message, and The Jewish Study Bible. That sounds like I'm more of a Bible student than I am, but it does help at times to read the same passage in various ways. | | | | | |

| | When I studied,I had 2 or 3,when I stopped studying them I ditched them,in a bin,and they got collected and taken away with the rest of the rubbish I put out. I knew that I would never need them again, and this has proved to be the case. | | | | | | |

| | Think I'm gonna pray that you feel a need for one again. ;) But the choice is yours. I'm sorry to hear you weren't touched by the literary beauty of the KJV, if nothing else. A book that's the world's best seller of all time can't be all bad. | | | |

| | I agree with you on yhis Jimbo. I also think its also down right rude for the original poster to suggest praying for Jimbo. Atheists dont need or appreaciate overbearing people like you.Believe what you want, but keep it to your self. | | | |

| | I have two bookcases, one to the left of me and the other in another room. I'm sure there are also Bibles in the other room, however, I will just address the ones I can look at right now: 5 KJVs - one from PTL Club, one from Jimmy Swaggart, one large type and two in leather protectors. 1 New American St Joseph Catholic Bible. This is a great version and I'm surprised with a Bible like this that more Catholic don't study it more rather than depend on priests to translate if for them. I'm not Catholic but do have Catholic friends is why I can make that statement. NIV 1 NKJV 1 Living Bible Recommend that along with your Bible, have a Bible Handbook; Topical Bible Book; Concordance and Bible Dictionary. | | | | | | |

| | Thanks for reminding me, I forgot about my copy of Jimmy Swaggart's "Expositors" Bible; also The New English Bible and Tyndale's New Testament. I agree about having a good Concordance and Bible Dictionary, as well as other helps. There are some good Bible research tools online, too. | | | |

| | I have 2 King James that are my own, plus my son has 1, plus down to 5 I picked up at a dollar store I give away to people who would like a bible but don't have one. I also have New International Version which I use daily and my son has another, and The Living Bible - on computer program I have KJ, AMP, Message, and a couple others (I'm always downloading more). Opps forgot Children's Bible I read to my grandchildren. | | | | | | |

| | It sounds like you use yours like I use mine, except I use the KJV daily and check it with the NIV and sometimes the Message to get a broader sense of some things. | | | |

| | Do you realize how blessed we are, talking about leaps of Bibles. There are so many people in this world how have to share one King James, which pages dissolving because of age and use. So I have just one Bible in order to read in bed or to take to the service, but I buy regularely contemporary translations as gift for newcomers or non believers. So how do I study? www.e-sword.net, all the Bibles you'd want and need, especially fine the literal translations. | | | | | | |

| | Yes, I do realize how blessed we are. I can go into almost any book store and buy a Bible. I have given away Bibles and no doubt will again. Another good online study source is blueletterbible.org It has several translations you can compare as well as dictionary, commentaries and other study tools. | | | |

| | If you have so many Bibles and they all have differences which one will you believe as solid truth and stand on to give the truth to another? and if you give the answer to another is it the right one as not to be held accountable? | | | | | | |

| | Good questions! I find that the Bibles are not all that much different, but some will explain some things better than others. When I come across something that seems contradictory in a different Bible version, I pray about it, and sometimes I just have to leave it alone. It's like the different denominations in the Christian church... which one is absolutely right in all its doctrine? None of them. If we would be afraid to give an answer to those who ask until we were absolutely, positively sure that we were 100% right, most of us would keep our mouths shut tight and the rest of us would be opinionated fools. The only exception is knowing Christ and Him crucified. That's the heart of our faith and must never be compromised. The rest... there's too much we don't know and we should never pretend that we do. | | | |

| | I have found copies of the KJ. version with commentaries written by main line evangelist that changed the whole meanings as what the line of scripture was saying which would drag a reader over to his denomination I'd say that was quite different. Through studying the history of Christianity it will show you where the denominations started and why and by who, which will definitely help someone understand more truth as to who's who and whats closer to being right. | | | |

| | I think you have to be a lot more careful with commentaries than you do with Bible translations. But it's always smart to check with the Holy Spirit before believing anything. | | | |

| | when we read the commentaries we can judge them because these we know are suggestions of men, but when it comes to the scriptures translated this is a lot more serious because this is supposed to be our instructions to life, written through the inspiration of the Spirit, wouldn't it be nice to have the original copy of the new testament as we do the old. Why was it possible for the old testament to be kept and handed down by the Jewish nation, in which you can get to this day a copy of the original it might cost anywhere from $5000 to $50,000, but the new Testament we only have what was canonised by Constantine and why he never kept the originals for us to compare, or do they have them, I know no one can check their library which is extravagant. | | | |

| | Oh probably a dozen or so, and that's after we gave away several. There's only one that ever sees the light of day. Mostly I look up translations online when I need them, so I don't really use any but the one I carry with me to church. | | | | | | |

| | Off the top of my head I will say 5. I would have to go count them to be sure. Most are NIV but I have a few others in there too. I even have a Catholic bible. I used to have the mormom bible too but got rid of that. Have you ever used www.biblegateway.com ? You can look up passages in all sorts of versions. It is a great reference tool. | | | | | | |
