I have no idea what a doula is. So I am clueless as to whether it is available here or not. My childbirthing days are over, I had my tubes tied after second child was born.

My childbearing days are over too, but I seem to be surrounded by friends having babies.
Doulas are very popular here. It sounds odd, if you've never heard of them, but they act as an assistant and an advocate for a woman in labor. Some come to the home after the birth and assist with the baby for a few days. Apparently the rates of complications and c-sections are very low for women who have doulas.
I didn't have one, because my doctor was very much like one. She talked soothingly on the phone with me for 2 hours when I was in labor, and continued at the hospital. It didn't feel like a medical experience at all.

I'm out of the loop I guess. Thank-you for the information about what a doula is. Have a great day!
