Ladies: Can you change car tyres?

Many men said that women can only drive but can't change tyre. It's irritating to me. I can though I never did. Once I have one of my car tyre blows off and have to change it. As soon as it blows off, I went check it out and went get the tools to change the tyre. I'm not afraid to get my hands dirty because of changing tyre. But the fact was men around came to help me out and didn't allow me to change it myself.
Till now I never blow my tires again but if I do, I'll change it myself. I want to prove myself and others that women can change their own tires, not just able to drive a car.
Can you change your car tyres, ladies?

That is one of the things my dad showed me how to do when I became old enough to understand how to use tools. Being the independant person that I am, I like to do my own car repairs if I can, instead of relying on someone else to do it for me.
Although I think when someone stops when they see a person having car troubles, they are doing so out of common curteousy. Cause sometimes some people really do need the extra help.

That is for certain, cause these days the number of those that care are dwindling down to so very few. I will always stop if I see someone having car problems, just to see if they need help, or need to be taken somewhere to get gas or use the phone.

I know how it works in theory. But in all the years that I am driving cars it never happened to me that I had to change a tire. I just got an offer here for a free course on what to do in emergency for women who drive. There they change tires just for teaching it. I was considering taking this course.
I have a driver`s license since 1969 and it never happened to me that I had to change a tire, but I always bought good tires and I do get them checked and I have a set of summer and a set of winter tires. The bi annual change I have done at a garage. So maybe that I never have changed I tire has something to do with the good work of the garage.

WOW! You're so . . . tidy. Of course nobody ever expect to have to change their tires but just in case we have to then we should be ready. Keep up the good work, the garage work. Hope you never have to change your tires. Thanks for sharing.

When the men want to help the ladies, it is not appreciated. Can a woman change a tire? Sure. Do most women need to do it to prove who they are? No. I will say this if the lug nuts have been tightened with an air wrench, they can be very difficult to get off. Because of this fact, I am sure there are cases where some women and even some men may not be able to get them loose. That's OK. Physical strength does not determine the quality of the person.
Hope you have a wonderful day.

Whenever I took my Isuzu Trooper II in to get the tires rotated, I always had to tell the mechanics not to use the air wrench, because they tended to put them on too tight and ruined them. They did not want to hear this from a woman, but on that vehicle, the mistake of screwing the nuts on too tight cost me $200 USD. Your point is quite valid that whether the driver is a man or a woman, the mechanics should not over tighten the lug nuts.

Hi there. Many men who said that, are wrong... I can drive and change my own tyre... My dad taught us to change tyres, check oil and water all the basics... Ive only had to change a tyre 2 times since...

I think even if women drivers know the theory about how to change tyres, the biggest challenge to them is to be able to screw and unscrew the nuts that hold the tyre to the axle. They usually need to be so tightly screwed (for safety reasons) that women do not have enough strength to take them out and put them back tightly.

Well, strength is another issue. I know that we have to screw the nuts tightly for safety reasons. For this, help could be necessary. But there must be ways to unscrew or screw such things like nuts. Besides in modern world there are more and more tools created to make everything easy for us. Thanks for sharing =)

I changed my own tires many times when I was a teenager driving a ratty old car, and every time I did it men would stop and try to help me. I just explained that although I appreciated the offer this was something that I needed to practice doing myself because what would I do if I were out in the country somewhere and a guy did not come along? Some of the men thought this was pretty funny and went away laughing. Some went away mad. But I would not let any of them touch my tire. Even though I was a skinny little kid I had no trouble doing this kind of work, so if I had to, I'm sure I could do it now, too. However, the way things are in the world are now, it is probably safer to call the auto club and let them do it, and at this stage of life, I would just as soon they did. However, cell phones had not been invented yet when I got my first car, and in those times it was a good idea for country girls to know how to fix things on their own cars.
