Just wandering if there are any fans of this period drama out there. It was a BBC drama on about 2 years ago now. It was based on the book North and South by Elizabeth Gaskell.
The BBC drama is fantastic - 4 one hour parts starring a very nice looking Richard Armitage and Daniella Denby-Ashe who plays the daughter in My Family.
It's about a young women called Margeret Hale (Denby-Ashe) who is in a very iddilyic southern village (in the uk). She has to move with her family to an industrial town in the north of England which is very different to what she's used to. The drama series follows the struggles her family have in this new town and how she adapts. It also as a few great plot twists and looks at the problems workers and employers had in the industrial towns.
Though don't let this put you off. There is also an underlying love story that develops between her and a mill owner, Mr Thornton (Richard Srmitage). She takes a very strong dislike to him but gradually (in a very pride and prejudice way) she becomes to love him.
So as anyone seen it and what did you think? If not, I really recommend you watch it, especially if you like period dramas like Jane Eyre and Pride and Prejudice!

I'm sorry it took someone so long to respond. But I just saw it and was absolutely enthralled by the movie.
At first, I felt it was a little over the top, Margaret's character getting on my nerves, however as the movie progressed I was captivated. Not one stereotype in the whole thing, very unique for a period piece. Every character came alive with both flaws and virtues. The acting was absolutely incredible in that respect. To get the nuance of those characters took real talent. Now, to be honest, I was a fan of Richard Armitage prior to seeing the film. Actually, I watched it because of him. *blush* But, I'd seen Daniela before in "My Family." I'd writted her off in that sitcom, but shame on me. She did an excellent job of mixing hard and soft as her character demanded.
And that's just the mains. The supporting cast made this movie riveting. I can't sing the praises for this flick loud enough. How rare it is to watch a movie, be entertained, and made to think at the same time. I wanted the ending to go on forever. To see their wedding, what happened to Boucher's children, etc. There was a sequel begging to be made there. I would have also liked to see Fannie get a swift kick in the tush, but that's just me. It was a great film.
