i want to make a rag rug, but have no idea how or what i need

has anyone ever made one themselves? i have tried to make one (the braided type) a long time ago - prolly about 20 years ago, and of course i have none of the equipment that is needed...
i was just wondering if anyone had any ideas on here that they were willing to share....

I have heard of them crocheting rag strips together to make a rag rug and then I met a Mennonite lady that said she braided her strips of rags together and then hand sew them together to make the shape she wanted. They were beautiful.

I have made a rag rug by crocheting strips of fabric together. I've seen people make oval shaped rag rugs this way, but mine are rectangular or square.

I do this by crocheting the rag pieces together. I found a tutorial online at vintagechica.typepad.com - it's a blog, and she has a rag rug tutorial. There are also lots of pictures on flickr of different ragrugs people have made.
