I remember many landline numbers, but i am unable to remember cell phone numbers, really. I only know two cell numbers by heart, the rest i must check them out in the directory. About landline ones..i remember quite a few actually.

Same thing here with me Light, I tend to focus remembering those numbers mostly landline numbers than cell numbers. But I do remember the cell numbers of my family members by heart, but the rest is my problem I still need to look at it from my phone though...maybe just got a slow memory here LOL :-)

I think we remember more landlines because we didn't use to have a directory like the one we have in our cells....nowadays when someone gives you a number, u directly copy it down in the cell, you don't take the time to learn it, unlike some years ago.

I am constantly having to use the phone directory. I have no problem remembering the numbers of my friends, but sometimes I need to contact doctors, or schools, and for the life of me I cannot manage to memorize those particular numbers. My directory sits right next to my phone, so it's very convenient to get to. LOL

I rarely remember numbers by heart. I have to use the phone directory or look it up on line.

We do use it, but not as much as we used to. We either call the 411 for information or we do a search online. It's not very often that we pull out the phone directory book.

I definitely still use the phone directory to look up businesses that I may need to contact about various things like home repair. It does not bother me looking up information that I do not have stored in my cell phone. I can not remember every phone number of every person and business that I am in contact with. Sometimes I use the online directory which is even easier.

Numbers that are important to me I tend to remember. Others that I need but not often I have written down. Others that I don't know at all; I look for online.

our telephone directory at home is not updated for three years now so i don't bother myself looking at it anymore. since there are directory assistance operators i can easily contact them and ask specific numbers i want to call. it's the most convenient and fastest way to know the numbers you want to use. i actually do not remember any numbers by heart except our own telephone number and my cellphone number. without the phone directory in cellphone it would be difficult for me to contact anyone since i have poor memory on phone numbers.

Yeah, truly it's hard sometimes to memorize numbers by heart specially when we have our slow memory when it comes to memorize numbers itself, I too find it sometimes a very hard thing. So, I guess telephone directories nowadays could still be more useful than I could ever think of. Thanks for sharing.

With the mobile phones having large nos in memory and SIM, I store all important nos there. But sometimes I require to refer directories to find a no. where address or name is only known. Some telephone providers such as BSNL have also launched online phone directory, which is also helpful and easy to search.
