Is hand sanitizer better than handwashing?

Alcohol-based hand sanitizer has been around for years, but the research was never quite clear whether it was as effective against germs as washing your hands. I use hand sanitizer to wash my hands. What about you? Do you think washing your hands with soap and water will be cleaner than using hand sanitizer?

Hand sanitizer is better than nothing but for me it isn't a substitution for hand washing. It is nice to have around when there isn't soap and water available.

I do have hand sanitizer and in truth I only use when I can not wash my hands. When soap and water are available it's always my choice. The last time I used it was during a power failure. I don't know the study results. I just know I feel cleaner with soap and water.
