Devotional for Tuesday, June 19, 2007 |

| Have you ever done something that was so stupid that you looked back later and said "If I only had a brain!" That happened to me yesterday. I went downstairs to the coffee shop and bought two freshly baked chocolate chip cookies. Now, I feel like I must mention here that this is my favorite cookie in the entire world. As a matter of fact, if the vote were to come up...I would vote yes to make chocolate a food group. After coming back up the stairs to the office suites, I decided that the cookies would be much better if they were warm and gooey. I stuck them in the microwave, hit what I thought was 20 seconds and left the break room to speak to a colleague. A few minutes later, I came back to get what I thought would be my warm, delicious chocolate chip cookies: to find the microwave still running. In horror, I smelled burned chocolate and looked up to see that the digital numbers on the microwave read 17 minutes remaining. I had obviously punched in too many zero's. I pulled out what was now two very hard round disks that could easily do bodily harm to someone, should they be hit in the head with them. "Oh look!" said my former friend. "You made petrified rocks" I wasn't amused, in fact, I was rather irritated at myself. Mainly because I had really wanted those cookies, and Mrs. Sarah had pulled the gates down, closing the coffee shop right behind me. Sometimes, our best intentions just aren't good enough. Like my warm cookies, plans go awry, because we're human and we just mess up. But our walk with God doesn't have to be that way. Proverbs 16:9 says "In his heart, a man plans his course, but the Lord determines his steps." But the comfort to that is what I feel is it's companion verse: Proverbs 3:6 In all thy ways acknowledge him, and he shall direct they paths. All we have to do is seek His will for our lives, and He'll lead us where He wants us to go. | | | | | |

| | I pray every morning for God to help me not do anything stupid that day and not tease anyone. I am really bad about teasing people. | | | | | | |

| | You know..teasing can be fun...if it's done in good humor and you quit after a minute. To do it just to mean, now that I have a problem with. We laugh and joke and cut up all the time in my office. Pick on each other, and tease. But we know that it is in good fun. | | | |

| | Oh my goodness. I Bet you had a good laugh later on that day thinking about it. Sorry I had to laugh forgive me. Ok now as for me one day I was doing the laundry washing my husbands t-shirts so he can wear it to work so after the washing was done I put them in a dryer so my hubby asked if they were dried yet I said what are you talking about (I forgot about it) so he repeated it again then I said yeah it should be dried by now so he goes to the laundry and get the shirts out and came to me looking funny I said to him what's wrong? he showed me the shirts oh my gosh it shrunk like a 4 year old can wear it I cried and found out I left it on too long like an hr to dry instead if 15 minutes. He said for me not to cry everybody makes mistakes and he forgive me and gave me a good laugh after he showing me the shirts it was funny on the way he said it so he went shopping that night to buy new shirts and said for me to be careful with it I thought yeah ,yeah, yeah and yet we still laugh about it. | | | | | | |

| | My son learned the hard way last week...that you can't wash colors and whites together. He accidently threw in a pair of his black Nike basketball socks with a load of white clothes...and bleach. Now, his socks have these wicked looking orange streaks in them. He said he thinks he could probably make more like that and sell them. They look orange and black tie dyed! | | | |

| | My husband laughs at me all the time and tells me that only my attention deficit brain could turn burned cookies into a devotional! I will take yours (and his) as a compliment. Thank you for your kind words. | | | |

| | Thanks for this devotional. The Lord is using you in a mighty way also. I think we sometimes forget that if we will allow Him to He will lead us where He wants us to go. I think a lot of us just want it our way and think that this the what He wants for us. I know that I have done that in my life also. Thanks again for the reminder. | | | | | | |

| | I appreciate that greatly. You know, today, I was feeling down and depressed, and very unsure of myself. I had gotten two "no" letters from corporations that we've submitted grants to..and then I got home to find a rejection letter from an editor in my mailbox on a story I'd written and submitted. Your words went a great way in lifting my spirits a bit. | | | |
