What was the first record you bought? |
| |
| I mean that you went out and bought with your own money. Do you still have it? Do you still like the song? Mine was Ain't No Sunshine by Michael Jackson in 1972. Yes I still have it and yes I still like the song although Bill Withers version is much better. | | | | | |

| | The first I bought with my own money was probably Wings Over America in 76 or 77. Until then I just listened to my mom's Beatles and Creedence Clearwater records. | | | | | | |

| | I remember paying one shilling and nine pence. The stuff that sticks in the mind!!! I bought a "single", "Red House" by Jimmy hendrix, it was the first music to lift the hair on the back of my neck. I went out and bought my first stereo record player the next day. My first LP was "Piper at the Gates of Dawn", newly released from Pink Floyd, and I remember my friends being blown away by the stereo sound coming out of seperate speakers lol.. Wow we thought technology had arrived!!! hehehehe Sadly, all my music is now digitised. Oh and Bill Withers...Don't you just love that "Use me" track?..Oh what a riff! | | | | | | |

| | I remember my first stereo too - thought it was the most amazing thing! I love "Use Me" as well but I'm a fan of Bill Withers in general - love his voice. Amongst other things I do I'm also a record dealer (and occasional collector) so I still have most of my old vinyl although have a lot of it on CD as well now. Just can't beat the sound from a vinyl record (scratches included!) By the way - great choice of track on your profile. Midnight Rambler is one of my favourite Stones tracks. | | | |

| | The first tape I ever bought was "Supertramp Paris Live" from 1980 (though I bought it in '82). I don't have the original tape anymore, but I now have it on CD. I also remember the first tape ever given to me. It was a Rolling Stones compilation called "Sucking in the 70s". | | | | | | |

| | That's a Stones one I don't have - maybe not released in the UK. The big problem with tapes was they were too easily damaged - I still have quite a lot of my old ones but I suspect if I tried to play any of them now they would jam up the machine. Give me vinyl anyday! Thanks for your response. | | | |

| | I remember that I bought my first record in 1977. It was Dee D. Jackson and the song was "Meteor man". Unfortunately I don't have it anymore and it's a lot of time that I don't listen to it. I listen to other kinds of music now, but I'd really like listening to it, what emotion.... It was a sort of disco music, now that I'm old I listen to every kind of music, but when I was young, my favourite kind of music was Punk. Thank you for your music list, I've just made my subscription and I took some songs from your list, I "stole" the Smith and the Sex Pistols. For the moment.... | | | | | | |

| | Hmm i think my first album was a BeWitched CD. I can't remember exactly, it was so long ago! I must have only been about 10. I'm pretty sure it was their first album, the orange one though i can't remember it's title. The music still has a special place in my heart but i sold the CD on Amazon years ago. | | | | | | |

| | I had records from other people and 45's that were given as gifts, but the first one I went out and bought with my own money, hmn. I am pretty sure that it would have been a 45 of Pink Floyd. It would have been the Wall, we don't need no education.... | | | | | | |

| | Wow Woodpigeon - you have a reputation of 100! You're the first person I've seen that has the perfect 10! I try really hard not to get sucked into the whole star thing but I'm a naturally competitive person so I just want to get to a 100/100 just for the sake of it. I'm so jealous now lol. Anyway I'm rambling ... Although I'm not a big Pink Floyd fan I have that one too but it's a bit more commercial than some of their other stuff I suppose. | | | |

| | Actually, for me, it was not one first record, but two albums. THey were Scorppions' "Animal Magnetism" & Michael Schenker Group's second solo album, Michael Schenker's album was a new release, & was on sale. There was also a store-wide sale, & being that I had learned that Michael Schenker started with The Scorpions, & I still had money left over, I also got the Scorpions album along with it. I was with my girlfriend at the time, & on the way home, she explained what the albm cover picture on "Animal Magnetism" was about. | | | | | | |

| | LOL the one with the man, the woman and the dog? Aww she probably thought it was quite sweet that you didn't "get it". Not heard much of the Scorpions although I saw the Michael Schenker Group a couple of times as a support band - once for Whitesnake and I think the other time they were supporting Dio. They were pretty good. | | | |

| | Michael, himself started off with his brother, Rudolf, & Klaus Meine, the lead singer in the Scorpions on their first album. During the support tour for UFO, UFO's guitarist did not make it, & Michael filled in, & ended up leaving the Scorpions to join UFO. In the meantime, the Scorpions got Ulrich Roth to replace Michael, who was later on replaced by Matthias Jabbs around 1978 or 1979. Also at that same time, Michael was recovering from alcoholism, & filled in here & there when Ulrich Roth left & started his own solo career as Uli Jon Roth. Michael then started his own thing, & Matthias became a permanent replacement. Yup, you are correct about the album cover. At that time, my mind was not quite that corrupt yet. | | | |

| | Oh - I also forgot to mention ... Dio & Whitesnake both have their connections with the original band, Deep Purple. Dio got famous when he became Rainbow's lead singer, formed by Richie Blackmore & Roger Glover, who left Deep Purple to start Rainbow. Whitesnake's lead singer, David Coverdale, replaced ian Gillan in Deep Purple before Whitesnake was formed. | | | |

| | Wow you certainly know your stuff! I have to say although I think David Coverdale has a great voice I really, really don't like him. I saw him with Whitesnake a couple of times and he can certainly sing but to look at and hear him talking is a different thing altogether. He is a tube! (that's a Scottish term - the closest equivalent is idiot and somehow that just doesn't go nearly far enough!) | | | |
